Greetings of Peace on this Feast of the Epiphany.
This thought-provoking celebration of the church stirs up wonderful imagery in our collective religious imagination: kings
traveling from afar, a bright star, gift-giving, the joy of a first-time visit to a new-born baby. In the midst of the joyful
aspects of the mystery, Pope Francis reminds us that there are also very serious elements at work here as well. The king
and his counselors sensed that the foundations of their power were crumbling. They feared that the rules of the game were
being turned upside down, that appearances were being unmasked. A whole world built on power, on success, possessions
and corruption was being thrown into crisis by a child! As good Catholics, we are called to look at all of the different
ways that the Christ-child calls us to be more generous, loving, and just in the world. May you and your loved ones have a
happy, healthy and most holy New Year.
Fr. Thomas Conway, OFM
Executive Director
