My Story

Novita Normasari (Indonesia)

My village is facing a problem, Almost all of the villagers in Pendingin Village, East
Borneo are illiterate people, they cannot read, just several children go to school, it is because
they dont have a primary school in their village, if they want to go to school, they should walk
to another village and it takes 3 hours to get there, and they must passed the long river and old
bridge. It dangerous but they have no choice, there is no shortcut way to get there..
In the 1945 basic constitution, article 31 are known that education is the right of every
citizen, but the government seemed to shut the eyes on the condition of it. It is not the only
village in East Borneo that the majority of its inhabitants are illiterate people, with abundant
area of income, the education supposed to be a major issue that must be solved by local
government.
Limited facilities in their village considered as the reasonable thing because of the limited
access to reach their village, as long as they can fulfill their daily need. They coexist with
national and multinational scale mining companies, it is sad to see the life of the villager in this
village not to be prosperous.
They also think that education is secondary things in their lives, because they still think
that they can live well without even reach school, most of the teenagers in this village already
married when they were 14 years old. They usually go to school just for elementary or not
finished it yet.
Daoed Joesoef stated that importance of education is all the livelihood, in choosing and
creating a good living, in accordance with human dignity. from the statement we can take the
conclusion that education is a very important matter and cannot be separated from life.
The constitution states that education helps develop the ability and forms an identity of
the nation, and produce dignified citizens
The only way to solve it was to Giving directives and motivation how important the
education is to the villager in their daily life, whether it is the formal or non-formal. Education
matters in making a whole human to the villager, and they are developed in a manner to build
schools free school not only for children, but also to parents that cannot read until now. The main
thing that must be performed in addition to construct facilities of education is that learning in
building the spirit of the villagers
