Introduction:

This method covers the procedure for measuring the

tensile properties of the asphalt bituminous mixture, by
determining the resilient modulus of bituminous mixture,
which is very important in determining the low
temperature cracks potential.

Objectives:

1) To be familiar with indirect tensile test.

2) To be familiar with the Universal Testing Machine.
3) To measure the resilient modulus of a sample of
asphalt bituminous.

Material used:
Sample of asphalt bituminous mixture.

Equipment:

Universal Testing Machine.

Laboratory work:
There is no standard for this test, and it is performed
according to the Machine manual.

Test results:

Accumulated Strainpulses diagram is in the appendix.

Stiffness modulus = 1023.6 MPa.
Resilient modulus = 704.11 MPa

Discussion:
The errors in this experiment were very little, since the
entire test is controlled mechanically, but they can be
summarized as the following:
1) The Machine may not be calibrated.
2) The Machine may not be zeroed.

Conclusion:
1) The Universal Testing Machine has very large number
of tests that can perform.

2) The indirect tensile test is very important in the

determining the possibility of low temperature cracks to
occur.
