WhatisElectricity?

We use electricity every day and without it, we wouldnt be able to do things that are second nature like
listening to music, watching tv, and heating up food with a microwave. Electricity is a form of energy created
bychargedparticlestheflowofelectrons,whichiscalledanelectricalcurrent.1
Particles are made up of atoms. Atoms have a center point, a nucleus which is made up of protons which are
positively charged and neutrons which are uncharged particles. There are electrons surrounding the nucleus
which are negatively charged particles, and the electrons spin around the center/nucleus like the moon rotates
around the earth.2 Most particles have an equal amount of electrons and protons, meaning the particle is
balanced.Whenelectronsarepassedfromatomtoatom,acurrentofelectricityiscreated.
Electricity is conducted better in some things than others. Thehighertheresistance, theclosertheelectronsare
to each other and the less electricity is produced. Things that have a low resistance and loose electrons create
moreelectricity,likemetals.3
There are two main types of electricity: static and dynamic. Static electricity is the amountofelectricalcharge
on the surface of a material. This type of electricity is standing still with voltage power but no electron flow.
Dynamicelectricityiselectricityinmotion,withvoltagepowerandelectronflow. 4
