Passage Master

Name: _Jorge Alberto Espinoza Duarte __ Book:_____ The devil`s highway _____
Chapters: ____6,7,8_____
Locate 3 passages of the story that your group should reread, discuss, and think about.
Passages should be important things for everyone to notice, remember, or think
about.
Choose a variety of passages, not all the same type--here are suggestions:

surprising/startling
confusing (something you wonder if other people understood)
descriptive writing: figurative language, strong verbs, etc. (identify literary devices) important
(maybe a clue? foreshadowing?)
controversial
event (elicits different opinions from group members)

During Your Group Meeting, Do the Following:

1.
Make sure everyone opens to the right page and help them find where the passage begins.
2. Either
read it aloud yourself, have everyone read it silently, or ask someone to read it
3. Tell your
reasons for selecting each passage; ask for comments. Do they agree with your choices?
Page ___ 101__ Paragraph(s) ___ 2 ___ The first 3 words of the paragraph are: A small lizard ____
This is interesting (or puzzling) because:

There were lizards in Veracruz but Im pretty sure that the lizards that they know arent
like the lizards that you can find in Arizona or any part of the U.S. Is interesting how two
animals can be from the same species and be so different.
An interpretation that can be made from ANOTHER PASSAGE, found on Page ___87____, Paragraph
___2____ is Sonoita was easier to trailblazer than the Devil`s Highway.
because

That to get through the Devil`s Highway was one of the more difficult things to do for
the immigrants and when they get to sonoita, that was like a relief. In sonoita there were
civilization and water, to things that they dont have in the desert.

In today's reading, a CONNECTION to my personal experience and/or my knowledge appears on Page

__99____, Paragraph _1__ and is Water and gas come in old trucks that regularly clank down his street.

I think thats really common here in Chihuahua in some places where there is not enough water and other
services. I have seen this in a lot of Ranchos o pueblitos were the trucks of vegetables or things like that
comes and goes in some days.

My comment or question about this story is:

Its really a hard story and I feel awful for all the things that the immigrants have to do to get better jobs
and opportunities. I feel thankful to my family and my parents that had given me everything and I dont
have the need to go through all this things.
