STENBERGS THEORY OF LOVE

The Seven Types Of Relationships

1. Liking: Liking includes one side of the triangular theory, intimacy, Stenberg
says liking characterizes true friendships, in which a person feels warmth, but
not intense passion or long-term commitement.
2. Infatuated Love: Is often felt as love at first sight. But without the intimacy or
commitement, infatuated love may dissapear suddenly.
3. Empy Love: Sometimes a stronger love deteriorates into empty love in which,
the passion and intimacy have died, but commitement remains.
4. Romantic Love: Romantic love includes, intimacy and passion, but not
commitement.
5. Companionate Love: Companionate love is often found in old marriages, in
which passion has died over time, but theres deep affection; it includes,
intimacy and commitement.
6. Fatuous Love: Fatuous love includes passion and commitement without
intimacy.
7. Consummate Love: Consummate love includes all three elements in the
triangular theory of love. Stenberg says that mantaining concummate love its
harder tan achieving it. With the time passion may dissapear so it becomes
companionate love.
