MOVE-OUT CHECKLIST

The following information is the room inspection preparation and check-out procedure for the end of the
year and should be read carefully. All University residence halls close at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 7, 2016. All
graduating seniors, siblings, and students working in support of Commencement Weekend must depart by 12:00
pm on Monday, May 16, 2016. When you check-out of your room, it should be returned to the way you found it at
the beginning of the year. The RA will assess charges for any damage according to your Room Condition Report.
Per the terms of the 2015-16 Undergraduate Housing Contract, rooms must be vacated within 24 hours after the
residents last final examination or no later than the official closing of the residence halls.
The following MUST be completed before you can be checked out:

For Community Space:


Laundry Room: Clear all personal laundry, detergent, dryer sheets, drying racks
Hallways on your floor: Clear all shoes, boots, drying racks, luggage, dcor-NOTHING LEFT
Common Bathroom: Remove all shower caddies/shower radios/personal items
For Individual Space:
Un-loft /Un-bunk your bed, if possible (check with RA if unsure). Give metal bed bunking bolts back to RAs.
Defrost your refrigerator; prop open the door of the refrigerator. Be sure to allow time for it to melt and dry out!

Do not leave it tilted in the hallway.


Clean your room! All surfaces wiped, floor swept and swiffered, private bathroom cleaned (if applicable)
o All roommates are responsible for condition of the room when the last person leaves
o Check behind furniture and under the sink, look in every drawer.
Empty trash and recycling directly to the DUMPSTER. Do not leave it in the hallway.
Donate any unwanted items to the Old to Gold drop-off on Bond Quad beginning 4/29
Donate food items to the orange food bank bins in lobby to go to Food Bank of Northern Indiana beg. 4/29
Close windows tightly and lock all windows.
Make sure there are no electrical items or outlets left.
All dry erase boards/markers/door decorations must be down.
Check your mailbox (and cancel any forwarded mail to ND campus-make sure the address on file is actually
the place youre moving/traveling to).
Fill out your RCR (have it filled out BEFORE you meet with Hall Staff).
o Have a check-out meeting with Hall Staff within time block.
o Sign RCR and turn in your keys.

Finally, please know that FINES ARE assessed during move-out even though we do not use them as behavioral
outcomes during the year. Below are some of the most common, but this is not a comprehensive list.
In order to complete check-out, you must follow your hall policies regarding check-out. Failure to make or keep a check-out
appointment and/or depart hall by hall closing will result in a $100 improper checkout fee. Additional charges will be
added for damage to the room or furniture, cleaning, trash removal, lost key(s) or other items as found on the Room Condition
Report.

Improper CheckOut: $100


-Failure to schedule or attend check-out meeting with Hall Staff
-Not notifying hall staff at all of your departure
-Late CheckOut
Tape Residue: $50/wall
Carpet/Trash/Furniture Removal: $50/item
Cleaning Fee: $100
Other: damages assess by Hall Staff according to the RCR
