Instructions for Substitutes at Woburn Memorial High School

Substitute Hours - 7:25 - 1:55 Substitutes should report to the Main Office (Nancy Paris) to
sign in, get Raptor ID (must have license), pick up schedules, and attendance sheets.
Substitutes are expected to cover a minimum of 6 classes per day. A minimum break time of 30
minutes during the school day.
Free Blocks - Substitutes should inform the Main Office of their location during their free blocks
(ex. 10105 - Nancy Paris)in case they are needed to cover additional periods. Substitutes
should not leave the school grounds without informing the Main Office. Staff rooms are
available on the second floor.
Sub Plans - Sub plans are generally left in the classroom or with the department head or
program director. Substitutes must follow all available Sub. Plans. Only when the Sub. Plans
are not available the students should be given a study period. All classroom and school rules
must be followed when a Sub. is covering a class.
Attendance - Attendance is taken for the school period two (B) but must be taken every class.
If the attendance sheet is missing, the students should sign in on a blank piece of paper. Codes
are as follows:
X = Present
A = Absent
TE = Tardy Excused
TU = Tardy Unexcused

All attendance must be left for the teacher with the exception of second period. Second period
can be delivered or called into the Assistant Principal's office (10302 - Kate Shaughnessy or
10300 - Robin Giardina).
If a paraprofessional is present in the class, please note, as the Substitute teacher you are the
lead teacher. Paraprofessionals are in the class to help with specific students only. Feel free to
use them as a resource.

Due to safety and security concerns substitutes must adhere to the following rules:
Substitutes should not interact with student outside of the classroom.
Substitutes can not dismiss a class or let a class leave early.
Send classes to lunch only after the second bell. This prevents overcrowding in the stairways
and doors.
Substitutes are not allowed to take students to the computer labs.
Substitutes are not allowed to take the students to the Library unless prior arrangements have
been made by the classroom teacher.
Substitutes are not allowed to send students to the Gym or Fitness Room.

Basic Rules of the Classroom


Attendance should be taken after the bell. Any student that arrives after without a valid
pass is considered late.
Passes should be given to any student leaving the class. The passes should be the
official pink passes. Theses should be for the bathroom only. Students must have
permission prior to the class to go to places like Guidance or the Library.
Electronic Devices may be used on silent during Study Hall periods as long as it does
not cause a distraction to other students in the classroom.
Student Behavior - Students are expected to stay in the classroom for the entire period.
Students are not to be dismissed until the bell rings at the end of the period. Students
are not allowed out in the hallways during class time. If a student becomes
disrespectful or unruly, they should be sent to the Assistant Principal's office with a
follow up phone call after you send them with a pass. (Mr. Maguire - 11th and 12th
Extension - 10300 Mr. Deldon - 9th and 10th Extension 10302 - All 9th grade will be
then directed through Mr. Deldons office to Mrs. Patrissi)
