This was a new venue for a draught test and appears to offer excellent potential.
We were unfortunately not blessed with good weather, with strong winds and rain,
but Newfoundland dogs and their handlers take this in their stride, and we carried
on regardless.
There were three entries for the Beginners Level, and I am happy to report that all
were successful. All the handlers maintain a loose lead throughout the control
element, and talked to their dogs, keeping their attention. Manoeuvring around
the ring was excellent with dogs and handlers maintaining a close connection with
no deviation on turns, or correction being necessary. The pull element with carts
and the log were performed perfectly with the dogs quite happy to pull the weight
without hesitation. Well done to all three teams, you are ready to move onto the
next level.
