Spelling Test
Due to the childrens support of the Scholastic Book Program, the intermediate unit was able to obtain,
at no cost, 84 grade-appropriate books for the library, 6 classroom sets of books, and 18 other books for
use in the classrooms of the unit. Many thanks to all of you who encouraged your child to read and
helped the school at the same time.
Just a reminder that the uniform policy requires that socks cover the ankles. This is always true,
but with many of the children now wearing shorts, it is obvious when they are in violation of the
policy and uniform violations will be given. Also, school shoes are to be black or dark brown
leather. Please keep that in mind when purchasing school shoes for next year.
In Language Arts class this week, the students continue the research report process. By the end of the
week, they should be well on their way to writing their rough draft in their notebook. Next week, the
students will work on this portion for homework. Mrs. Smith will skim their rough draft, however will
not proof for errors. Mrs. Smith gave students a handout and discussed proper bibliography form. When
students are done with notecards, they may write their bibliography and return their sources, if need be.
The final paper is due by June 1. Spelling lesson is due tomorrow. Please have your child study all
words, including the Challenge Words.
In Social Studies, the class is finishing the Revolutionary War Game preparation and will play the game
next week. The final classroom Geo Eggspert Challenge is Tuesday. The winner will then go on to
compete in the school final.
In Science, we are finishing up our Lost in Space unit. Today the children started working on their
Space Museum exhibit. The children have the option of working alone or with a partner, and the
requirement for the exhibit will vary slightly depending on the option the children chose. We will be
working on this in class through next week, so there should be ample in-class time to complete the work.
I am not anticipating that, other than maybe gathering some simple materials, any work on this project
will need to be done at home.
The Peacebuilder Assembly on Friday has caused us to make a change in our Family Life Human
Reproduction sessions. The one that was originally scheduled for Friday this week will be moved to
Tuesday. The final one will be a week from Friday, as originally scheduled.
