Mean: 11.16
Sample Standard Deviation: 9.19
Left Tail
Null Hypothesis: Fowler students also spend 20 minutes on Facebook daily.
Alternate Hypothesis: Fowler students dont spend 20 minutes on Facebook daily.
Level of Significance: .05 This value is important because, it will later determine if the null
hypothesis is rejected, if the p-value is less than this value.
Number of samples: 30
Degree of Freedom: 29
T-Value:-.32
After surveying thirty students at Fowler High School based on their facebook usage, our group
then compiled the results of our poll into a data table. After that was completed, when then
plugged all of our data results into the L1 list and ran a one-variable statistic. By running a one
variable statistic test, this gave us our mean and standard deviation values. We then determined
our null and alternate hypothesis based on daily Facebook usage. For our project, we are using
Student's T- Distribution, because our data covers only a small sample of the population.
Therefore, our population standard deviation is not know, and our data value is under thirty so
this also requires us use student's t-distribution. To find the t-value, we calculated the t-value by
first subtracting the sample mean by the population mean, and then dividing that sum by the
sample variance multiplied by the square root of the number of data value. After making the
calculation and using the table, this got us a p-value of .3745. After analyzing the data, our group
concludes that we are failing to reject the null hypothesis, because we feel the FHS students
spend more than twenty minutes on facebook daily.
