CV 413 Irrigation and Drainage Engineering

Assignment No.7
Due Date: April 29, 2016 in hard copy

1. Calculate the weir crest level for gated diversion for the following data:
Maximum Discharge Q = 150 m3/s
Highest Upstream Flood Level = 101 m
Clear Width of the barrage = 250 m
Laceys silt factor = 0.1

2. In above question, determine the depth E2 and downstream cistern floor level if
Downstream water level is 99.0m. Assume upstream floor level as 96.0 m.

3. Calculate uplift pressure at critical points (atleast two) in the above questions
using Lanes Weighted Creep theory, if the upstream floor length is 10.0 m and
downstream floor length is 15.0 m. Provide necessary upstream and downstream
sheet piles and determine u/s and D/s floor thicknesses to counter uplift pressure.

4. Draw a line diagram showing all components of a barrage in Plan and longitudinal
Section
