WATER FLUSHING
Rev : 0 Page 3 of 4
1. INTRODUCTION
This is general requirements for carrying out the flushing applied to piping system Portable Water and
Sewage line.
2. REFERENCE
3. SCOPE OF APPLICATION
The pressure flushing shall be applied to the following piping systems in accordance with the
classification described in General Commissioning Procedure for Pipe/Equipment Cleaning.
However may not be limited only to the above, and maybe it is applied to other service for which other
cleaning methods are originally scheduled so as to suit the work progress.
4. GENERAL METHOD
Water pressure flushing is water flushing to remove foreign materials such as construction debris and
sand inside the pipes are carried along when they are subjected to pressure fluid flow and ejected at an
open end by the pressure flow the particles can be moved and shall be carried out when the system is
completed and the final section of piping has been tested, however to minimize the loosing energy to
removed other material such as rock or remaining wooden inside the pipe shall be visually checked
prior to final weld joint, each system or section part of a system to be flushed or cleaned shall clearly
marked on the drawing
By injecting a volume of pressure water with the aid of temporary water pumps and hose connections
through pipes to an open end and portable water could be utilized as one of flushing water sources.
5. PRECAUTION
The following precautions will be observed when water pressure flushing is conducted:
(1) Water used for flushing shall be from a clean supply or portable water.
(2) Prior to filling piping systems with water, check all connection bolt is tightened.
(4) Manhole covers shall be opened as required to verify that all entrained dirt and sand has been
expelled from the system.
(5) The discharge area is to have a suitable for drainage at receiving screen pit area or other
approved dump water area and to be protected free of unsealed electrical or other equipment
which could be damaged by water. Discharge area to be clearly cordoned and marked as to
assure personal safety. Activity to be communicated via advance notification and
announcements.
Planning
(1) The main pipe line shall be flushed from the upstream end at the end of the line. Branches shall
be flushed sequentially in the same manner.
(2) When applicable, pump suction line is flushed out by gravity flow by filling suction drums with
water.
(3) Water flushing route shall be determined and shown on a marked up P&ID. The following items
shall be indicated on the P&ID.
7. ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
When any foreign materials which could interfere with the actual plant operation are no longer visible
in the flushed water, a final sample is to be checked, using a catch screen, by CONTRACTOR and
COMPANY. If both parties are satisfied with the sample, the hydraulic pressure flushing shall be
deemed satisfactorily completed.
8. POSTWORK
(2) Suitable measures shall be taken to maintain the internal cleanliness of pipes once hydraulic
pressure flushing is completed until being placed into service.
(4) All flushing shall be documented and recorded on P&ID’s by CONTRACTOR and COMPANY
immediately upon completion of the flushing.
