Set up 2 rows: *(k1, p1) 2 times, p1, (k1, p1) 6 times, p1*, repeat * to * 3 times,
(k1, p1) 2 times
Row 1: *(k1, p1) 2 times, p1, c4f, (k1, p1) 2 times, p1*, repeat * to * 3 times,
(k1, p1) 2 times
Row 2-4: *(k1, p1) 2 times, p1, (k1, p1) 6 times, p1*, repeat * to * 3 times,
(k1, p1) 2 times
Row 5: *(k1, p1) 2 times, p1, (k1, p1) 2 times, c4b, p1*, repeat * to * 3 times,
(k1, p1) 2 times
Row 6-8: *(k1, p1) 2 times, p1, (k1, p1) 6 times, p1*, repeat * to * 3 times,
(k1, p1) 2 times
Repeat rows 1-8 until desired length. Bind off on Row 8, in pattern. Fringe looks good on this
scarf, but is not necessary since the cable cast on/off make a nice edge.
Notes:
Cables are worked in k1, p1
c4f = slip 4 stitches onto cable needle and drop needle to the front of your work. Work the next
4 stitches in k1, p1. Then k1, p1 from the cable needle.
c4b = slip 4 stitches onto cable needle and drop needle to back of your work. Work the next 4
stitches in k1, p1. Then k1, p1 from the cable needle.
Between the * and * is a rib row and a braid. The pattern is 3 repeats of the rib row and braid,
then one more rib row. You’ll also notice that the purl stitch between the rib and cables help
them pop more.
