Reproduction – Boys

1. A boy or man’s reproductive system is where his body creates the sperm cells
that combine with a female egg cell to create a new human life.
2. Sperm cells look like microscopically tiny tadpoles. They are made in the
testes, inside the scrotum.
3. The testes and scrotum hang outside the body where it is cooler, because this
improves sperm reproduction.
4. At 15, a boy’s testes can make 200 million sperm a day.
5. Sperm leave the testes via epidermis – a thin, coiled tube, about 6 m long.
6. When the penis is stimulated during sexual intercourse, sperm is driven into a
tube called the vas deferens and mixes with a liquid called seminal fluid to
make semen.
7. Semen shoots through the urethra (the tube inside the penis through which
males urinate) and is ejaculated into the female’s vagina
8. The male sex hormone testosterone is also made in the testes.
9. Testosterone stimulates bone and muscle growth.
10. Testosterone also stimulates the development of male characteristics such
as the penis, testes and beard.
