Blender Publisher-

Dennis Publishing

• One of the magazines in which I analysed was ‘Blender’. Blender was published by
‘Dennis Publishing’. The magazine began in 1994 as the first digital CD-ROM
magazine by Jason Pearson, David Cherry and Regina Joseph. It was then acquired
by ‘Felix Dennis’ which is Dennis Publishing. It published 15 digital CD issues and
then launched on the web in 1997. It continued to publish a print edition again in 1999
which is now it’s common form.
• Dennis publishing however, was founded in 1974.
– Typically this magazine has featured quite popular artists, however these artist's
are from a variety of genres. For example looking at the cover’s I analysed, I had
one in which displayed Leona Lewis, whose music is focused on pop and then
one with Taylor Swift, whose songs are country.
– Therefore it could possibly be a possible company to publish my magazine. It’s a
highly successful company and that may widen its success as indie is not as
popular as a genre such as ‘rnb’ or ‘pop’.
BBC Magazines

BBC magazines, publishes the music magazine ‘Top of

the Pops’. However ‘Top of the Pops’ as the title
suggests, focuses mainly on the music genre ‘pop’ in
contrast to the genre I’m focusing on; which is indie.
Therefore this will not be a good choice of publication to
publish my magazine.
EMAP Magazines

EMAP once published the music magazine ‘Smash Hits’.

However like BBC and ‘Top of the Pops’ the magazine
tends to base around mainly the pop genre of music and
would therefore once again, probably not be a good
choice of publication to publish my magazine.
