Statement Of Problem
Destruction Of Trees In City
(Bangalore)
Introduction
 Tree plantation has been a tradition rooted in
the City’s history. It had all begun with Hyder
Ali of Mysore inviting several experts, 300
years ago to create a green cover at Lalbagh
and other parts of the City. The successive
rulers of Mysore emulated his efforts.
 But now…Plantation, a forgotten tradition
50,000 of trees axed for INFRASTRUCTURE
DEVELOPMENT like
Widening roads , Forming residential layouts ,
and now for Metro Rail project.
The largely unplanned growth of Bangalore has
left hundreds of layouts without a single tree.
This shocking loss of the green culture has left
summers hotter, entire residential areas under
a grey cloud and a city firmly lose its erstwhile
garden splendor. The mindless felling of trees
for infrastructure projects has only made things
worse.
 With the Right to Way (RTW) in the City being
very narrow, it is hard to save the trees
particularly in the light of developmental
projects being taken up in the city. But the entire
road has been widened without space for even a
footpath or trees.
Bangalore’s metro rail is a much
awaited solution for its traffic issues, with the
growing population of Bangalore , silicon city of
India
 Metro construction is fast progressing owing
to the felling of trees at Lalbagh, MG Road
and RV Road. Pointing out that most of the
trees which are going to be axed for the
Metro rail construction along the Vidhana
Soudha and central colleges roads are as old
as 150 years and are part of the city's heritage
Because trees are disappearing so quickly,
problems occur.
 The animals’ habitat is destroyed.
 Destruction of thousands of homes and
businesses.
 Cutting down of 30,000 trees resulting in a 3
degree rise in temperature.
 Loss of many familiar, beloved heritage and
cultural spaces.
 Conversion into a hot, dusty, characterless city
like the thousands of others around the country.
Objectives
 To create an awareness among society to prevent
or to reduce cutting down of trees and to know
the problems faced in future Bangalore.
 It helps us knowing whether destruction of trees
are only solution to build any kind of
infrastructure.
 The health of our youth and coming generation is
deteriorating because of absence greenery
around them were we all going to suffer in the
long run.
Objectives
 To analyses the measure taken by BBMP,
Ministry of Environment and Public in saving
trees.
Scope Of The Study
 Saving trees is still important than just looking at
the development in city, since trees are being
axed down in the name of development.
 Measures that as been taken like sapling planting
or tree surgery( transplantation) helps in
overcome the trees which is lost.
 Unravels the pattern of growth in Bangalore and
its implication on local climate and also on nature
resource, necessitating appropriate strategies for
sustainable management.
Methodology
 The method used for this research is
Descriptive Study as it was found the facts
related to cutting of trees, hence descriptive
study is best suited.
Sampling Design
 SAMPLING TYPE:
The type of sampling used Simple Random
Sampling.
 SAMPLING UNIT:
The total sample taken into consideration for
the research is 30 units.
Sources Of Data
 PRIMARY SOURCES: We have collected our data
by observation method , questionnaires (only
issued to students).

 SECONDARY SOURCES: We have accrued our

Secondary data from Journals , Magazines , and
articles in newspapers and internet.

Conclusion
 Bangalore earned its famed name - the
Garden City - mainly due to its greenery
 Environmental experts are convinced the City
is gradually turning into a desert. The City’s
average temperature, as per research, has
increased by 3-4 degrees. This is because we
have lost over 60 percent of the green cover
in the City within a span of a few decades. If
this continues, we will be badly affected.
Conclusion
In this global worming age, when we need to do
more plantation for a better future, healthy
atmosphere, it is a absolute no-no to cut
down the trees… we are not against the
development, but we are here to protect the
trees… what is your ’say’ ??
