Front cover, Contents page and
double page spread
Front Cover
• I have created the flat plan for my front cover
based on the research I have done on R&B
music magazines. Mostly all these magazine
such as ‘vibe’ would have one image on the
front and I have also followed this convention.
• The text on these magazine would also be
around the main image which I have also
incorporated into my layout design.
• The title is at the top of the page like many
music magazines are

have also illustrated on my
flat plan but on the other side
I tried to stick to the
convention of the magazine
when it came to the layout so
that people would be able to
recognise it as a R&B music
magazine.
Contents page
• Many contents pages that I looked at for
R&B music magazines just kept it
simple. This would be in contrast to
many other magazines for example rock
magazines as they normally consist of a
lot of images and text.

I did not want to over

complicate the design
of my contents page
as it would not then
represent the genre of
music I am trying to
portray.
Double page spread
• It was hard to design
the layout as I did not
want to stick to the
conventions of a
double page spread
for an R&B music
magazine.
• As it was a real life
story I wanted it to be
represented like this
through the layout I
used and also the
naturalism of the
pictures used.
• I used many quotes
within the article as i
wanted them to catch
the readers eye.
