Technology Standard 4- Social, Ethical, and Human issues: The competent teacher will

apply concepts and skills in making decisions concerning the social, ethical, and human

issues related to computing and technology. The competent teacher will understand the

changes in information technologies, their effects on workplace and society, their

potential to address life-long learning and workplace needs, and the consequences of

misuse.

1. Write a paragraph explaining your knowledge and understanding of the standard—put the

standard into your own words.

The standard to me is saying that as an educator it is my job to know what the latest technology

is available and how to teach with it. I should be engaging my students in learning not only

through teacher instruction but through technology as well. I need to be aware of the ever

changing popularity of technology and what it is going to mean for my students in the future.

There will be a day when everything is computerized and I want to give my students to the best

opportunity to succeed in the technologically advanced world.

2. Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and application of the

standard.

I understand that technology is a huge part of our everyday life now. I also understand that

students are going to need insight and instruction in this new technology age for them to

succeed. As a teacher it will be my job to find the latest applications or software on the

computer to help students do interactive projects. It is also my job to encourage students to be

involved and familiar with technology and not punish them for using it. There are still dangers in

the new technology but with proper guidance students will stay away from those. I also realize
that not every student is going to have the advantage to have the latest technology and it is my

job to make sure that student gets the tools and help they need so they do not fall behind for

something that is out of their control.

3. A If the artifact has been used in your practice, reflect on how your teaching will change in

the future to further meet the standard.

B. If the artifact has not been used in your practice, i.e., a class assignment, reflect upon how

your teaching will be impacted by the assignment.

As a teacher I plan on using technology as much as possible. Students need new ways to be

engaged in school and technology is just one of the advantages to help them. It makes learning

more fun and meaningful. Technology also sparks students imagination and interest making

them more prone to paying attention or being involved in class. Reaching my students is

something I value very much and technology is the area that makes this happen. Students love

playing video games, computer games, and getting on the internet. I plan on teaching with

these things that they love so they can get more out of the learning experience and realize that

learning is everywhere they look.

4. Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and Learn in a

Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.

I know what it is like to not have the latest technology and not being able to get the most out of

education. I came from a school that was very poverty stricken and we were not able to have

the new computers or teaching devices that other schools were. I do not feel like my education

was lacking, I just feel that I could have had more. As a teacher I want to give students the best

I can with whatever I have to work with. Even it is as simple as a single computer, I want to

show students new and exciting programs and software on the computer that can make learning

and homework more fun. I have seen the students who do not get the advantage of having a
computer at their home and I want to make sure all of my students are on the same level when

it comes to technology. Every student should be given the same opportunities and should have

the same knowledge technology as everyone else.
