    P. Senthil of Thermax B&H reported to an IOCL site to address issues with flame scanners made by Fireye not working properly. Upon checking, the flame scanners were found to be working correctly. It was determined that the mounting of the main flame scanner was improper according to Fireye's application guidelines. The sealing union with quartz window, which was not required for the Thermax Heater, was removed from all 18 burners. This resulted in the flame scanners showing 70-80% intensity compared to the previous 20-30% intensity. It was recommended that removing the quartz window would not affect the life of the scanner lenses.

    IOCL Baroda , Flame Scanner (Make :- Fireye) problem.

    1)Self reported to site with M/s Lucent macrons engineer on 4/12/2010.


    2)As reported by M/s IOCL the flame scanner which were not working
    (E,L,M,N,O) were checked first and found it was working ok .
    3)As recommended by M/s Lucent with consideration by M/s Fireye
    the mounting/installation of main flame scanner was not proper as per
    application.As per fireye catalog no CU-105 (page-8, figure no.5 and
    drawing no D) sealing union with quartz window is not required for
    DHDT Thermax Heater and the same has been removed and
    implemented in all 18 burners.

    4)It has been observed that the flame scanner which were showing 20-
    30 % intensity showed 70-80 % intensity after removing the sealing
    union with quartz window.
    5)It is recommended by M/s Lucent in consideration with M/s Fireye
    that by removing the Quartz window will not affect the life of the
    scanners lens and the main flame scanner is kept under observation as
    requested by M/s IOCL/Thermax.
