What is energy

Energy is the ability to do work. You can

do work only if you have the energy .
Energy is needed all the time- to work
machines in factories, gadgets at home,
vehicles on the road, planes in the air
and so on. Living things are also using
energy all the time.
Different kinds of Energy
Fossil fuel energy: Fossils are the remains of
animals or plants which died millions of years
ago. Dead animals and plants got squeezed and
pressed under layers of rock. They slowly
changed into coal, crude oil and natural gas. All
these are found underground. They are called
fossil fuels. When you burn fossil fuels you get
energy.
Solar Energy: Energy from sun is called
Solar Energy. Solar energy can also be
used to produce electricity.
Wind Energy: Energy form the wind is
called wind energy. It is used to move the
fan on a windmill to produce electricity.
Chemical Energy: There is energy stored
inside a battery. This is called chemical
energy. Since batteries contain chemicals,
batteries have to be used carefully. Used
batteries, when thrown away, can also
pollute land and water.
Electrical Energy: Electrical energy is
also made in a thermal power plant using
fossil fuels. You already know that using
fossil fuels has many problems.
Energy from the falling water: A dam is
a huge wall which blocks a flowing river. A
dam has a gates. When the gates are
opened , the water rushes down like a
giant waterfall. It is used to make
electricity.
Atomic Energy: Energy form the atom is
called atomic energy. It is produced in
nuclear or atomic plants. This kind of
energy can be very dangerous to produce
and use.
