    What we are learning In Reading- The story this week is On the Way to the Pond. We will learn about the setting of a story. The phonics skills are the bossy r sound of the letter combinations er, ir, and ur. In Writing-We are working on writing for different reasons. We continue to practice the conventions of print. In Math-We are learning strategies to add to 12. In Social Studies-We are beginning a new character building study. The quality that we are examining this week is respect.

    Help Needed!
    Lets start the New Year right. Please help us teach your child by attending to a couple of routines. *Have your child go to bed around 8:00 in the evening so that she/he will be well rested and ready to learn. *Make sure your child is dressed for the weather. *See to it that your child has a good, high protein, low sugar breakfast. Breakfast is provided at school if you arrive before 7:45. The cost is $1.75 unless you are on free or reduced lunch. *Please check your childs homework and have it ready to turn in on Thursdays. *Be on time! It is disruptive for a child to come in late.

    Our Calendar *Wed., Jan.11-Scholastic Book order due *Mon., Jan. 16-No School! Martin Luther King Day! *Fri., Jan. 19-No School! Teacher Workday! *Mon.-Fri., Jan. 23-27-After school bake sale fundraiser. Our goal is to earn enough money to adopt a manatee through the Save the Manatee Club and to help pay for a March field trip to Homasassa State Park to visit our manatee. Please sign up to help sell and/or bake some goodies.
    Thank You to: Katie, Marks Mom and Katie, J.R.s Mom for volunteering to read with the kids on Mondays and Fridays respectively.
