    On a rainy morning, three new teachers were welcomed to Whangarei Heads School with a Powhiri ceremony. The ceremony began with a karanga call from Mrs. Humphries to welcome the visitors. Mr. Dennis then gave a speech in Maori to welcome the teachers to the special place of Whangarei Heads while the school sang a waiata song. Mrs. Silipa's uncle Te Warihi then spoke, thanking Mr. Dennis and Mrs. Ruffel for the warm welcome after Mrs. Silipa's family sang another song. Finally, Mrs. Silipa, Mrs. Newbold, and Mrs. ____ were welcomed to the school with hongi

    On a drizzly Friday morning in Whangarei Heads, 3 new teachers were welcomed by Powhiri to Whangarei Heads School.

    First Mrs Humphries called for the manuhiri (visitors) by doing a karanga "karanga mai, karanga mai, karanga mai." Next Mr Dennis gave an awesome speech in Maori to welcome the visitors and tell them how special Whangarei Heads is. The school supported Mr Dennis by singing a waiata (song). Then Mrs Silipa's uncle Te Warihi spoke to the school introducing himself and thanking Mr Dennis and Mrs Ruffel for the warm welcome after Mrs Silipa's whanau (family) sang a song. Finally Mrs Silipa, Mrs Newbold and Mrs ____ was handed to the school and everyone walked around giving each other a hongi.

    It was a fantastic day and now we are lucky to have 3 fabulous new teachers at our school.
