Visitation of the Gods

Script
It was early in the morning when a letter was delivered by a sleepy janitor to the
principal’s office. The letter is addressed to the school principal announcing the annual
visitation of the superintendent, district supervisors, and division supervisors.

(*knock *knock *knock)

Mrs. Olbes: Come in!

Martha (Janitress): Good Morning Mrs. Olbes.

Mrs. Olbes: Good morning to you too Martha.

Martha (Janitress): A letter arrived Ma’am and it is addressed to you.

Mrs. Olbes: Okay thank you Martha.

(*Proceed to read the letter)

Later that day, a meeting was scheduled for all faculty members regarding the
visitation next week.

Mrs. Olbes: Good morning everyone, as you all might have already heard we will be
observed by the supervisors, and the superintendent next week, so we must be
prepared. The school needs to be clean as much as possible, everything must be
arranged properly, and the students they must behave themselves.

I want the full cooperation of everyone, is that clear?

Faculty member: Understood Mrs. Olbes

(*The meeting continue with the planning for the visitation)

Throughout the whole week, school maintenance, teachers, and students were busy
running around the campus cleaning the school as per instruction of the principal. Students
and teachers were divided in to groups with different chores assigned to them. The first
group was assigned in preparing the food that will be served while the second group is
assigned in preparing the room for the guest to rest. The third group is the one assigned in
cleaning and designing the classrooms. Mr. Noel’s class is assigned in landscaping the
premises and removing unsightly objects in the surrounding.

After a week, the visitation day came and faculty members are all waiting in front of
the school to welcome the visitors. A car suddenly entered the school grounds and the first
one to come out was Ms. Alava.

Ms. Alava: How are you Mrs. Olbes, nice to see you again!

Mrs. Olbes: Nice to see you too! Welcome, it is always an honor to be visited by you.

Ms. Alava: Well, then thank you for having us.

Mrs. Olbes: Don’t mention it. Anyway, shall we proceed inside?

Inside the school food and drinks is being served to the guests while conversing with
each other. Meanwhile, Mr. Noel was searching in the crowd for Mr. Ampil, the old
language arts supervisor. Throughout the crow the new English supervisor approach Mr.
Noel.)

Ms. Sawit: Mr. Noel, I presume? I am the new English supervisor- Sawit is the name.

Mr. Noel: Did you have a good trip ma’am?

Ms. Sawit: Terrible!

Mr. Noel: Shall I show you to your quarter? You must be tired.

Ms. Sawit: Yes indeed, I’d like to freshen up.

(*while walking…)

Mr. Noel: I trust nothings the matter with Mr. Ampil, ma’am?

Ms. Sawit: Haven’t you heard? The old fool broke a collar bone, he’s dead.

Mr. Noel: Oh…

Ms. Sawit: You see, he insisted on going on ahead of us to this school we were
visiting. On the way to the godforsaken island, that muddy hellhole he slipped- and
well, that’s it.

Mr. Noel: How terrible.

Ms. Sawit: Funny thing is- it turned out that the fellow is as poor as a churchmouse

Mr. Noel wrinkled his brows but then he shrugged it off and let Ms. Sawit rest in her
quarter.

As soon as the bell rang Mr. Noel entered his class followed by Ms. Sawit. The class
has gone quiet and Mr. Noel proceed with his discussion with Ms. Sawit observing.

The period ended with Mr. Noel and Ms. Sawit touring around the building just
before the bell for supper rang. A feast was presented to the visitors together with a soft
music playing in the background.

In the corner of the room Mr. Noel is alone sipping wine while his other hand is
inside his pocket.

Ms. Noel: I heard from the principal that you are quite a headstrong Mr. Noel. But
then again I don’t easily believe on what I heard. I will recommend you for a post in Manila
where your talent won’t be wasted.

Mr. Noel: Thank you for the wonderful offer ma’am, but I have to refuse. I’m happy
where I am, I realized that it’s not about the position and the money why I started teaching.
I want to help the children here in Pugad Lawin to achieve their dreams.
It is a tempting offer but I don’t want the prestige and power, my goal in this career
is to help the students.

Morning came, the supervisors packed their belongings and were soon ready for
departure. One of the teacher grab the camera and instructed everyone to join for the
picture taking. Mr. Noel was late- but he quickly take his place at the lowest rung of the
school’s hierarchy with pride and humility.
