Ni Hao from KSJ

The children welcomed in the Chinese New Year - in style! A Hanban teacher form Confucius Classrooms, Miss Zhang came in to a special assembly. All the children learnt about the history of the Chinese New Year and the many traditions that celebrate it. A few words of Mandarin were learnt and the highlight of the morning was when Miss Zhang taught the children to dance with the dragon to authentic Chinese music. Mrs Evans provided a wonderful Chinese lunch, which took the children a little longer than usual to eat - trying to master the art of eating with chopsticks!

The children commented: Ni Hao! We are Kingsley St Johns Primary School and yesterday a Chinese Lady called Miss Zhang came into school and we did a Dragon Dance and we watched the story of Nian. I found out I was born in the year of the Pig (Bruce)
I liked doing the dragon dance but the dragon head was heavy, my arms hurt (Thomas) My favourite thing about the Nian story was when Nian ran away because the fire crackers were like lightning (Katie)

Future events The prestigious Highfield Choir will be performing in Kingsley and children from Class 2 and 3 will be singing along side them. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children and the community to enjoy an evening of song. Kingsley Community Centre Thursday 20th March 7.00pm (Tickets available from school)
