Handwriting without Tears

Handwriting without Tears is the writing curriculum we use in our classroom. It does a great job of helping our students learn the right way to form their letters. We practiced forming our letters in the beginning of the year, and made great success with this program. Recently I have noticed our students handwriting has become quite sloppy. We are taking time each day to review the proper formation of each letter. We are now not only writing letters, but also writing short words. With proper practice our writing fluency with greatly improve, and we will maintain our amazing writing skills. Please take the time to check your childs writing at home. A reminder that all letters should be starting at the top, there should be no capital letters in the middle of words, and if your see your child has written a letter incorrectly, please gently remind them of how the letter should look. Reading We will be focusing on the short /a/ sound as it appears with other letters. Math We will review 2-demensional shapes and continue to practice describing each shape. We are learning that shapes are in the world all around us.

Science We are continuing our unit on plants. We have learned the parts of a plant, and different types of plants. We will now be growing and observing our own bean plant.

*Please read with your child every night. Doing so gives them a head start at learning to read.
