Survey Analysis on Test Screening Results

For our test screening we carried out a questionnaire to gain feedback from our targeted audience on what they liked about our film and ways that it could be improved. 10 surveyors took part in this test screening so the results are based on the feedback they gave. This feedback is helpful to us as it enables us to understand what we have done to satisfy our targeted audience and what we could do to improve on our final product.

1. What were your first impressions of Your Troubles Are My Troubles? For this first question, three out of the ten surveyors made the simple comment of good which shows that overall they enjoyed watching the product. Others made comments such as interesting and could be better which shows that we still have work to do as there is room for improvement. One person also stated that they liked the start but disliked the ending of the film. This critical feedback helps us to gain deeper knowledge as to what parts of the film needs improving the most. This makes it clear to us that we need to work more on the ending of the film rather than the start to ensure that we are meeting the desires of our targeted audience. 2. What conventions of the opening two minutes were most effective in creating tension?

4.5 4 3.5 3 2.5 2 1.5 1 0.5 0 Lighting Sound Picture Camera Angles

These results show that most of the surveyors preferred the camera angles as the effective method for creating tension. Second most favourite method was the sound which may be down to the dialogue of the characters and the emotions portrayed. This shows us that we have successfully been able to show effectiveness in creating tension using the different techniques which the audience can identify with.

3. Did the opening titles look professional? If not, what improvements do you feel could be made to the opening titles?

Yes No

From looking at the results on the graph, we can see that the majority of the surveyors think that the titles look professional which is obviously a positive thing for us. For the three that answered no they gave feedback for ways in which the opening titles could be improved. Two said that the titles should have special effects added to them to make them more exciting like flying in on the screen or fading. The other person said that the font was too simple and that we should change it to a different colour. We will take this into consideration for when we edit our film next.

4. What was your favourite part of the opening two minutes? Out of the ten surveyors three of them said their favourite part of the film was the conversation that took part between the social worker and student. This shows us that the shot reverse shot method we used worked as it looked realistic. Another surveyor said that their favourite part was when the social worker went to the victims house. Others stated that they enjoyed the start of the film more than the ending. This confirms our decision on working on the ending scene to make it as effective as the start of the film.

5. What was your least favourite part of the opening two minutes? For this question surprisingly six of the surveyors said their least favourite part was the ending as it gave away what happened next. This is something we definitely need to take into consideration to apply the changes so that the ending doesnt give away what happens next. Two other surveyors said that the beginning of the film was in fact their least favourite part as it didnt introduce the film in the best way. This is something we will try and work on so that the film starts off professionally.

6. List 3 improvements in which you yourself would make to the opening two minutes. Suggested improvements are: Change the very ending Make the start neater edit it again Add music to the start Change titling

7. From the opening two minutes, did you understand the reasons for the film being called Your Troubles Are my Troubles?
