1. Media Specialists Responsibilities


Support classroom teachers by integrating curriculum into the media lessons. Support classroom teachers by providing them with resources (written and technological) needed for instruction. Connect classroom teachers with the resources needed if our media center does not have what they need. Hold a Media Committee meeting once a nine weeks to get input and feedback from teachers. Provide students with the research skills necessary to find information both written and technological. Create a safe, caring environment within the media center. Develop a reward system for encouraging Reading Counts. Provide students and teachers with information with new resources the library obtains. Provide teachers with the information they need in order to comply with copyright laws.

2. Laminating Materials
Laminating will be done twice a week. Tuesday and Thursday There will be shelves set up in the back room for each grade level. Leave your materials on your grade level shelf with your name on them. Laminated materials can be picked up on the same shelf they were dropped off on.

3. Checking Out Professional Materials


Materials in the resource room are organized by subject. The shelves closest to the media center door are parent resources. Intermediate level guided reading and class sets are hanging on one rack in the resource room, big books and books on tape/cd are on another rack. If you use the guided reading or class sets in centers or require students to take them home please make sure you keep track of who has the books. Primary guided reading books are on the shelves in the media center next to the reference section. The notebook for checking out these resources is kept at the circulation desk (professional honesty is expected with the handling of these materials).

5. Media Committee
The media committee is assigned by the principal and should include: Media specialist Teacher representative from most grade levels Principal or administrative designee Parents The function of the committee is to aid in identifying strengths and needs of the media program and to establish short and long term goals for program improvement. Committee meetings should be scheduled as needed and should occur at least four times per year.
