The Nicola Valley Community Arts Council has appointed Meriel Barber as the new director for the Courthouse Art Gallery. Meriel has been an active member of the arts in Merritt since her arrival in 2012, both as a director for the NVCAC and as an art instructor for the City of Merritt. You may have seen her at an Arts Council event or on Canada Day where she volunteered her portrait-drawing skills. Meriel comes with a wealth of experience gained through years of association with Arts Councils in northern BC, and being part of a team that put on many successful shows in & out of galleries for many artists. Meriel is an exhibiting artist herself & working art teacher, and brings her experience & knowledge to the job. Meriel takes over from Kathi DahlquistGray, who has been an integral and unfailing part of the gallery for the past seven years. The mission of the gallery is to present visual arts of all types local and otherwise in a professional manner. The Courthouse Art Gallery is open Thursdays 4-8pm, Fri. & Sat. 12noon-6pm, at 1840 Nicola Ave. Admission is free.
