Oraul Nostru is the pure illustration of the eclectic and historically nostalgic culture of the Romanian people.

T ranslating to mean our city, the restaurant is located in Cluj-Napoca one of the most academic, cultural, and industrial centers in the country. Home to renowned cultural institutions and 11 universities, Cluj is the heart of a diverse culture interwoven with the folklore legacies of their Dacian ancestors and modern advancements of their city revival. With the presence of 100,000 college students, Cluj embraces a high esteem for their youth, who they recognize for a lot of the citys fresh development. This admirable culture of not only their treasured history, but their college population, is the root of the design inspiration behind Oraul Nostru. Oraul Nostru allows a hub for college students to eat, socialize, study and break from the actual campus into a setting that carries the same atmosphere and conveniences. Moments of seclusion and privacy will be achieved through visually and physically separating spaces via floor heights and architectural curtains as well as opportunities of collaboration and camaraderie divided among a variety of high tops and banquets. Simultaneously, moments of traditional design will take place in the material and furniture selections as well as visual highlights reminiscing of the history of Cluj to further instill in them this sense of our city. In a city of such rich culture both past and presentthe restaurant is a potential landmark that blends the values of modern-day college students with the history and traditions familiar to the elders of the city.

Cluj has a very eclectic culture due to its wide variety of predecessors Cluj, or the T reasure City, while experiencing a cultural revitalization, still maintains a strong grasp of its rich folklore traditions and values. The city has become a major economical and technologically advanced port in Romania due to its geographical location and resources.

Bar Perspective
The cafe bar, located near the secondary entrance of the restaurant is positioned for convenient and casual seating in the atrium. It makes a bold statement with atrium wall art accented with decorative objects atop the bar ceiling that represents the old versus new culture through a theatre arts graphic. The design represents the rustic and eclectic style of Romania through different layers of wood against a white brick wall.

Study Lounge Perspective

The study lounge, adjacent to the bar, has an open wood wall letting in natural light and providing inside/outside views that create a space where students can be alone together - an idea frequently seen in public libraries and other educational facilities that allows students to experience privacy without isolation. Multipurpose Stage: Karoake Stage

While in the daytime the multipurpose stage is used as a study area, it can quickly become an entertainment center for the youth. With a hit of a switch, recessed cans are replaced with neon spot lights and illuminated disco balls to aid the next karaoke or live band event for the vibrant college town.

Multipurpose Stage: Study Zone

The multipurpose stage is occupied as a study zone in this view. Its position on the steps helps define the spaces visually and maintain some sense of privacy while being in the hub of the atrium. The wood-strip walls further enhance that sense of privacy while keeping open sight lines to either end of the atrium to create an atmosphere of community and socialization.

Interactive Timeline Wall

The interactive timeline wall gives students a modern and fun way of connecting with the past of their city. Aside from personal interest, the wall gives hardworking students an opportunity to switch scenes and take a break from studying.

This lounge serves the purpose of providing a quiet, more closed off space that offers a blast from the past through technology and graphics. The strip lights accent the wall art while the deep colors and low, wooden ceiling create a deep and focused environment.
