March/April 2014

Comrades:
I would like to thank Edi Clonce and the Ladies Auxiliary for putting on a fantastic Crab Feed. Also, thanks to the Comrades for all the raffle prize donations. The Crab Feed was well attended, the canteen made great money for the Post. The profit from the Crab Feed is split between the Post and Auxiliary. This event is one of the largest that we have had in years. Thanks again for everyones hard work. I think this year was the largest turnout we have ever had for Jeans Saint Patricks Day dinner. This is always a large fundraiser for the Post and Auxiliary. Jean told me we served about 198 people. Thanks to everyone that attended and thanks to Jean and her wonderful crew for all their hard work! This last weekend we put to rest Hugh King. He ran our canteen for years and did a wonderful job. He leaves his wife, Rita of 63 years, son, Clifford, our Custodian and son, Russell. Hugh will be missed by all. Rest in Peace Hugh! A message from National and State that I need to tell all of our members; the VFW has a zero tolerance on sexual harassment. They have been having a lot of problems since there are now more women Veterans joining the VFW. At our Post we have about eight women comrades. There have been sexual harassment complaints at other VFWs. It is not something we have ever had at our Post, but everyone needs to be aware that it is absolutely not tolerated. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me. I know that many people have borrowed the Posts tables and chairs in the past. However, that is no longer the policy. No tables are allowed to leave the Post. I am very sorry that we have to do this but many of our tables were ruined by someone that borrowed them and we cannot afford to replace them when they become damaged. The older brown folding chairs can be loaned but will require that you sign them out with the bartender. In the future I would like to have some tables available to loan and I will report when that has been approved and they are available.

Dear Sisters:
I hope everyone is doing fine. Please keep everyone in your prayers who have passed away as ours go out to their families. I have met my goal of $1,500.00, money going towards Scholarships awards benefiting students of veterans. I Thank you for supporting my Taco sales to raise this scholarship money for River City High School. I will continue to make tacos which will help feed homeless Veterans at Christmas time. Tacos are served from 2:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. for a donation of $2.00. Please remember that on April 20, 2014 Dianna and Janice Medina will be putting on their yearly Easter Egg hunt. They are asking for decorated Easter eggs as well as plastic filled Easter eggs. Please drop items off at the Post labeled Dianna by April 18, 2014. We are also in need of bags of jelly beans. Easter Egg hunt starts at 1:00 p.m. sharp! Thanks for your donations without them this event would not be possible. Do not forget to bring you cameras. My thanks goes out to and her kitchen helpers. Do not forget Monday night dinners. Tacos on Sunday April 4, 2014 and April 25, 2014. I will be making tacos for $2.00 donations. There will also be karaoke by Cathy (from Vinces). So come out for great tacos and great karaoke.
