Morning Prayers Week beginning: 5th May 9JB1, 9JB2 12th May 10JB1, 10JB2

Prayer for the Week

Let us pray this week for the school community in Leeds who have lost a precious teacher through terrible circumstances. We join them in their school prayer which has been adapted. Corpus Christi Catholic College School Prayer Today, as they WORK together, we ask you: Be with them, Lord. Today, as they LEARN together, we ask you: Be with them, Lord. Today, as they GROW together, we ask you: Be with them, Lord. Today, as they live their MISSION, we ask you: Be with them, Lord. Today, as they grieve together and comfort each other, we ask you: Be with them, Lord. In the coming days, as the school community rebuilds and journeys on, we ask you: Be with them, Lord. AMEN

Headteachers Comments
Year 11 Mass
Congratulations to our Y11 students who attended and contributed towards a very memorable Leavers Mass.

Music
It has been yet another very busy week for our students and the Music department. On Tuesday we formed the backbone of the Hartlepool Worldwide Music Festival and on Thursday we had our Sixth Form Musical Soiree. Both events were hugely impressive. Many thanks to our hugely talented students for their contribution.

Chess
Congratulations to upper school champion, Jack Twydale, and overall school champion, Brandon Casey, and very well done to all who competed in this prestigious competition.

Photography
Following his success in the Hartlepool round, Adam Gofton has won the north east regional Rotary Club competition and now goes onto the national final. Some of his photographs can be seen on the stairs leading up to the computer rooms.

Girls Football
Congratulations to the U16 girls who won the County Cup on Thursday evening.

Academy
On Thursday 1st May our school became an Academy. I hope that this move will assist us in improving the school environment in the future.

Jokes and Riddles

Q: What do you get if you cross a chicken with a cement mixer? Q: Why do birds fly south in winter? Technology Joke? A: A bricklayer. A: Because its too far to walk.

Why do you call your dog Metal-worker? Because every time he hears a knock he makes a bolt for the door.

EMS Chess Tournament Finals 2014

Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 saw the finals of this years EMS Chess Tournament, which took place in St Annes Hall. After 6 weekly qualifying rounds before Easter 8 students were chosen to compete for the titles of Lower School, Upper School and Overall Chess Champion with finalist medals for all. After 6 matches, the fight to be the overall EMS Chess Champion went down to the final match, with lower school champion Brandon Casey, just easing out upper school champion Jack Twydale. Both received a plaque, with a cup going to Brandon. Congratulations go to both of those for their excellent play and sporting behaviour. The same goes for the other finalists. The other runners-up were Joshua Cain (3rd, and lower school runner-up) and Nathan Liddell-Archer (4th and lower school 3rd place). The other four finalists all won at least one game, so well done to James Ellingford, Mia Simpson, Keenan Robson and Thomas Turnbull for their effort and commitment to make the finals and contributing to some great games. If you didnt get involved this year, or just missed out on the finals, then have another go next year. Several of the finalists were largely chess beginners at the start of the year so it is never too late to start playing this challenging but fun game. The weekly chess club is a great way to learn the game, while friendly games can always be played in the library at any time (just ask the friendly librarians for a chess set and mat). Thank all those who took part, as well as staff for their support this year. Thanks also go to Mr Jury who has assisted at the chess club in recent months. Heres to even more chess next year! Mr Edwards

Chess Club
Wednesdays chess club is temporarily suspended while GCSE and A Level revision classes are taking place. However, after the science examinations are completed, the chess club will restart (Lab 5 3.10 to 4.10pm on Wednesdays). Mr Edwards

Spanish Club
English Martyrs have begun after school Spanish lessons for Years 7-9. They will take place every Monday in B36 from 15:15 until 16:00. The lessons will be fun and interesting but will also be a great way for students to learn a second or third language! Please see Mrs York with any questions.
