SOLVA SCHOOL have attended Pembrokeshires Annual Enterprise Fair every
year since the very beginning, back in 2008, bringing some fantastic, innovative
products along with an incredible journey from the start until the present day
and maybe even a glimpse into their delightful offerings for the 2014 Fair.
What a fantastic opportunity, I have never seen an event like this before,
but shall be taking the idea home with me A visitor from Oxford
Building on from their Bin Success, the
following years Enterprise team at Solva
decided to develop the idea even further!
In the first picture below, students can be
seen in the very early stages of building
the bins... with the finished product to the
right looking absolutely fantastic! The bins
got bigger and even more colourful in
(year) and once again proved to be a real
money spinner for the enterprising school!
Pictured are pupils from Solva with the
fantastic owls they had made to sell. The owls
were made into various products including
puppets, doorstops and simple ornaments.
Pupils from 2012 taking Enterprise outdoors! Although the
Enterprise Fair is just a 3 day event, the preparation and effort
put into designing and making products to sell across those three
days is enormous! Here, enjoying the glorious Pembrokeshire
sunshine, pupils from Solva School begin the decorating of their
Bin Monsters which were a real winner, flying off the stall!

A great variety of products in 2009 Enterprise
Fair. Solvas Enterprise team were very busy
in the run-up to the fair! Using simple glass
tumblers, they came up with the fantastic
idea of making tea-light holders and vases,
amazingly decorated with their own fair
hands! Alongside these, they also made
wonderful slate chalkboards, decorated with
hand collected shells washed up on the local
beach. These proved to be a huge hit with the
customers who told the team the chalkboards
were ideal for their kitchens, for writing memo
notes on or shopping list reminders. As well
as these they also made beanbag fish made
out of recycled materials and rice!
Building on their success of the seashell-
decorated slate chalkboards, Solva returned
in 2010 as Frames R Us. Using recycled
wood to make frames or frames found in
charity shops, they upcycled them using
seashells collected from local beaches.
Together with the Slate Chalkboards, they
went down a storm with passing customers!
Solva School is committed to Enterprise with
a dedicated Enterprise display in the school,
detailing the previous years enterprise journey
with sample products. The
monies raised by the traders at
the Enterprise Fair tend to be
all profit as they collect recycled
materials for upcycling. This year
is no different and Solva are set
to shine again... a little teaser for
you, if youre looking for home
grown, fresh salad products for
your summer lunches you may
want to visit Solvas stall!
After being a judge at the Enterprise
Fair, Cllr Huw George invited Solvas
Enterprise Team to visit County Hall
after being so impressed with their
dedication to making products out
of recyclable materials. The team
arrived at Haverfordwest using
local public transport, which was an
exciting experience in itself! Above
Right, you can see the team outside
County Hall! The team were invited into the Council Chambers
where they took to the seats of our local Councillors... practising
for the future maybe? They were then awarded with a buffet lunch
before presenting Cllr George with a sunny Solva photo in one of
their hand-made, upcycled photo frames!
