Educational Experience
Thanks to all the Kindy families who helped with the fete, the fete secured over $3,300 in sponsorship, and in spite of the weather, made over $6000 for the Kindy! Many of you will be familiar with Educational Experience, the company that supplies classroom resources and teaching aids to playgroups kindergartens and schools. This year, the Kindy has joined their 'Toys & More' fund-raising programme, which gives 20% of any purchase made to the Kindy. If you were planning on purchasing educational resources this year and would like to support the Kindy at the same time, you can browse the catalogue at the front desk, or visit:

Child Protection Week

Protecting children is everybody's business. Child Protection Week is coming up from the 2nd to the 8th September. Child Protection Week promotes the value of children and encourages community members to take responsibility for protecting our beautiful children. We thought it timely to inform you of the commitment The Stones Corner Community Kindergarten have made to this very important issue.
Both the staff and committee members are blue-card holders and have undertaken child protection training as part of our responsibility. We also have brochures on display under the parent noticeboard available for you to take home if required. This year white balloon day is being held on the 7th September. If you would like more information about this event or Child Protection Week, the website addresses are

Orders will be collated by Kerry (Alexa's Mum Group B).

Blue Cards for Grandparents

Also please remind any grandparents who wish to escort the children on the excursion to Trevena Glen Farm on the 18th October, (beginning of term 4) that they will be required to hold a blue card to attend the day. Thank you.

and balancing baskets. One way that the Kindy enriches this program is by hosting multicultural visitors who come in and meet the children and demonstrate something from their culture: singing, story-telling, musical instruments, etc. If you know of somebody who would be interested in visiting and sharing their culture with the children, please let Julie-Ann know.

Health and Safety

Magpie Season
Magpie Season is starting again, which is when magpies swoop pedestrians and cyclist who come too close to their nesting tree and chicks. Please keep an eye out when walking to Kindy near the bush areas. Umbrellas can be used to protect pedestrians, and attaching zip-ties to a bike helmet will discourage them from coming too close. Quest Newspapers has created a crowdsourced Google-map of where magpies are swooping in Brisbane. You can visit it to check your local area or submit your own report:
http://www.couriermail.com.au/questnews/mag piemap

If you see anything that you think might be a safety hazard - loose paving, dying branches about to fall - please let someone know. Please also make sure that your children do not climb on the rocks nor up the vertical garden near the front of the Kindy.

Welcoming Jackie Trad as Kindy Patron

Stones Corner Kindy is happy to announce that Jackie Trad has accepted a request to the be the Kindy Patron. Jackie is the new state member for South Brisbane. She says that she is honoured to have been asked - we are her first community organisation that she has been patron for - and we look forward to her support in the coming years.

Do you know of a multicultural educational visitor?

Throughout the year, Kindy has been introducing the children to the diversity of cultures in our community and around the world. The children have learnt to sing "hello" in various languages, they have read books and looked at pictures about other cultures, and had hands-on experience with e.g. traditional dresses
