Alanzo and Snail

It is a very beautiful sunny day today so we all went out for play in the
playground. While I was observing the tamariki playing and enjoying
outside, Alanzo came to me excitedly and showed me what he has found
in playground. Alanzo holding the snail in his hand and said" look teacher
Anar, I found a snail" I said" wow, can
you put it on the ground so we can have
a close look at it" Then he put the snail
on the ground. Tamariki were so excited
and explored the snail together. During
the conversation I was amazed with
Alanzo's knowledge on the snail. He was a
really expertise on this. All tamariki were
listening to his explanation. Alanzo told all other tamariki and me that the
shell was his house, when he is scared or cold snail put himself in the
shell. (Ako learning) He also taught us that snail got a sticky body so he
sticks himself on the feather. He was explaining this while he was holding
the feather with the snail stuck on it. I see Alanzo also quite protective of
his snail while some tamariki keep putting the feather on snail. He told
other tamariki "stop, if you too much tickle him, he will scared and put his
head in the shell".
Ka mau te wehi!(wow) I am very impressed with Alanzo putting the snail
on his leg which I really scared of. How brave you are Alanzo. You are
really good model for other tamariki and me who scared of some insect.
You were really taking care of this snail. It is almost going home time so

we all ready for go inside. You told me that you wanted to take him to the
house and put him in the garden to give him shelter. You took the snail
with you inside and put it on the table. You keep continued to closely
explored the snail with other tamariki until your mum arrived. When I saw
your mum I told her what had happened today she smiled and said to me
you do like insects. I also talk to teacher Maysoon she said that you
learned about snail last year at centre of course from your home
experiences as well. The learning experiences today was deepened your
previous learning experiences. In the future, maybe we do more research
on snails we could learn all together from book or Google from Internet.
What learning is happening here?
