Biography
1- Personal summary
Ngai Nguyen Van Hau, thng goi la Nguyen Trung Hau, sinh
ngay 05 thang 03 nam Nham Thn (01-04-1892). Ngi bat
au lam th luc 19 tuoi, vi but hieu Thuan c.
Tot nghiep trng S Pham Gia nh (Ecole Normal de Giadinh),
Ngi c bo lam giao vien cac trng trong vung Saigon
t nam 1911. Nam 1922, ngi lam Giam oc trng t thuc
Internat Primaire de Dakao tai ng DAries, nay la ng
Huynh Khng Ninh.
Nguyen Van Hau also called Nguyen Trung Hau was born
on the 5th of the third month of the year Nham Thn (April 1,
1892). He started to compose poem since the age of 19 with the
pen name Thuan c. Graduated from the Gia nh Pedagogy
school (Ecole Normale de Gia nh), he was appointed as a
teacher of various schools in Saigon since 1911. In 1922, he was
the Director of the private school Internat Primaire de Dakao at
DAries street (Huynh Khng Ninh street today).
Sau cn bao bnh keo dai ung 100 ngay, ngi thoat xac ve
vi Thay, Me tai Gia nh vao luc 16 gi 50 ngay Mung 7 thang
9 nam Tan Su (16-10-1961), hng tho 70 tuoi. Tang le c
Hoi Thanh c hanh theo le ao trong 5 ngay va tam an tang ni
ngha trang gia nh tai Gia nh, v luc o thi cuoc kho khan
khong the em ve Tay Ninh.
Ngay mung 4 en mung 7 thang 9 nam Giap Dan (18 en 2110-1974), Hoi Thanh do Ngai Hien-Phap, Chng Quan Hiep
Thien ai, a ch than ra lnh to chc le cai tang di the Ngai
Bao Phap ve Toa Thanh Tay Ninh.
Luc khai mo sau 13 nam an tang, thi the Ngai con nguyen ven
nh mi thoat xac (luc tan liem khong co p xac) nen viec
xep ngoi kiet gia va liem vao Lien ai rat thuan li. Lien ai
quan tai t gia Cay Queo Gia nh. Hoi Thanh hanh le te
ien theo nghi thc ai ao. Ngai Hien Phap cung Hoi Thanh
lng ai, Hoi Thanh Phc Thien va ong ao en tan ni
niem hng cau nguyen.
Sau 2 ngay quan tai t gia, Lien ai k Long Ma (Long Ma rat
ln c ben e tren xe camion) ve Thanh a Tay Ninh lam

At the opening of the coffin, his body was found intact after 13
years (the body was not embalmed) and therefore was easily
shrouded in a sitting position in the octagonal coffin at his private
residence in Cay Queo, Gia nh. The ceremony was performed
according to CaoDai rituals by the Sacerdotal Council of the Cu
Trung ai, Hiep Thien ai, and Phc Thien. CaoDai followers
also came for the prayers.
After two days, the coffin was transported by the dragon horse to
Tayninh and buried in a tomb at Ao Ho after one day ceremony

to Tayninh set up the altar to greet and pray for his soul.

Dan (April 25th,1926), Mr. Nguyen Trung Hau and Mr.Trng
Hu c were appointed as Medium Assistant Taoists. They
became a pair of effective mediums for the spreading of CaoDai
to people.

gieng moi ao.
Ngay 14-05-1957 (15-04-inh Dau), Ngai Bao-Phap c Hoi

pham Le-Sanh va Giao-Hu. Cung trong thi gian nay, Ngai tai
lap ao c Van an e khuech trng thi van ai ao, c
nhieu ngi hng ng co tieng vang rat tot mai en ngay nay.

Ve phan i, ngoai viec day hoc cho trng cong, lam giam oc
trng t, Ngi con la giao s Phap van trng Hng-Viet,
trng Nguyen-Du, trng Nguyen Anh Bon (trng Nguyen
Phan Long cu) Ngi va viet bao cho uoc Nha Nam, HoanCau cua ong Nguyen Hao Vnh, va lam Chu but cho nguyet
san ai ong cua Lien-Hoa Tong-Hoi do ong Nguyen Phan

You were evidently famous at the time of the Chau dynasty.
Now reincarnated again at the third amnesty to bring peace
to people,

On April 1st 1933 (the 7th of the 3rd month of the year Qui Dau),
the Quyen Giao Tong and the Ho Phap issued an order to send
three Zodiacal Dignitaries to act as the Chng Phap of the Cu
Trung ai. The Bao Phap acted as the Buddhist Chng Phap.
In 1934, when the Quyen Giao Tong passed away, he was
sent back to the Hiep Thien ai. Not long later, he was sick
and asked the permission to return to his home in Gia nh for
convalescence.
On February 16th 1956, when the Ho Phap fled Ngo nh
Diem government to Phnom Penh, The Thng Sanh and
other zodiacal dignitaries (the Bao Phap was one among them)
returned to the Holy See to lead the Sacerdotal Council.
On May 14th 1957, he was appointed as Director of the Religious
School to train Le Sanh and Giao Hu . At the same time, he
re-established the ao c Van an (ao c Literature Club)
to promote religious literature and poetry. This club was well
supported by followers until this present time.
4- Literature work
Besides being a teacher for public schools and a director of
aprivate school, he was also a professor of French for the schools
Hng Viet, Nguyen Du, Nguyen Anh Bon (previously school
Nguyen Phan Long). He was also a writer for the Newspapers
uoc Nha Nam, Hoan Cau (of Mr. Nguyen Hao Vnh), and the
director of the magazine ai ong of Lien Hoa Association
headed by Mr. Nguyen Phan Long.

ma du dat cho tr hoa rong them nghe con ! (thang 5-1927)
Ngoai viec lam van thi, Ngai Bao-Phap Nguyen Trung Hau con
co Thien tai ac biet ve viet cac cau lien oi. Tuy Ngai t hoc
Nho hoc nhng lai thong minh loi lac lam cho cac cu o nho
va ngi Tau kham phuc. Ngai Hien Phap Trng Hu c co
thuat lai :Toi con nh luc no, c Ly ai Tien giang c khen
tang va noi rang : Ai muon xin lien th xin ni Hau.
Ngai Bao-Phap a viet cau lien ni Thuyen Bat Nha :
- Van s viet vo, nhuc the ky qui tam xch tho.
- Thien nien t hu, linh hon trc ao Cu Trung Thien

to earth.

return to God.
Trong gia nh, Ngai Bao-Phap Nguyen Trung Hau la ngi con
rat hieu thao. Nh cong qua cua Ngai lap c ni ai ao
Tam Ky Pho o ma than mau cua Ngai c sieu thang va tang
cao pham v ni coi Thieng Lieng Hang Song, ung vi 2 cau
kinh trong bai Kinh Tung Cha Me Qui Lieu :
Thong dong coi tho nng hon,
Ch con lap c giup hun ngoi xa.
In the family, the Bao Phap was a very filial child. Thanks to his

higher celestial dimension exactly like mentioned in the prayer
for the dead parents:

waiting to be devoured by the beasts nor waste time running
around and getting further lost. What should he do? The only
way is to keep going straight forward, and at least he would not
get further lost and may have a chance to get out of the forest.

People are lost in the worldly forest and want to find a way to get
out, but do not know how. In this difficult situation, they cannot
sit still, like a non-believer waiting to be devoured by demonic

The three religions (Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism) have
been the foundation of the house of the Tao since ancient times.
Over time, they have decayed. Our temporary shelter is the faith
of Angels, Saints, Immortals, and Buddhas. This is the time to
rebuild the house of the Tao, thereby improving religions. We
should not buy all new materials and discard all good lumber and
tiles from the old house. We just need to buy necessary items
to replace the decayed ones, and also use the good lumber and
tiles saved from the old house; then we may rebuild a good, solid
house of the Tao.
We may keep the old foundation (Confucianism), only making
it more solid, high and dry. This is to improve Confucianism.
We then need to replace the decayed supports and walls with
new ones. This is to improve Buddhism.
We need to do the same with the frame and tiles (Taoism). This
is to improve Taoism.
By doing these improvements, we may then have a new and
beautiful, high, dry, and solid house of the Tao that may last
forever, which is the Tao of the Supreme Being, CaoDai or ai
ao Tam
Ky Pho o.
So, it is ai ao Tam Ky Pho o that moves the three religions
into one according to the cycle of evolution.
What is the cycle of evolution? Every thing has an origin and an
end. If there is creation of the world, there would be an end of it.
The end is the last. If the last does not stop, there would be the
return to the beginning of another cycle.

Buddhas would be able to reveal. Spiritism is extremely important; and unless you have time to attend the seances frequently,
to learn intensively the teachings, you would not be able to tell
the difference between true and false. It is like music. If you
do not know music, you would not be able to appreciate or to
understand the symphony. Spiritism is as precious as gold or
jade; if one has not seen them, one would not know how to test,
to recognize them.
Angels, Saints, Immortals, and Buddhas are all high spirits. They
would not dare to use the name of God. Even when they come
to teach at the seances, they would act according to the order of
God, and they would use their own names. If you say that evil
spirits use the name of God to come to seances, you couldnt be
more wrong. Evil spirits are Yin spirits, heavy and dirty, hating
gentle people and loving cruel ones; they would never come to
teach and guide people on the right path, not counting the fact

Q: If in following the Tao, one has to wear coarse dress and canvas shoes, why are divinely ordained dignitaries wearing colorful
silk robes and elaborate headdresses, which are not consistent
with the economic and simple life of virtuous persons?
A: The Tao is important. It is necessary to have a well established
organization in which orders should be honored within a religious
fraternity. Orders may be recognized by colors that represent the
three faiths, red representing Confucianism, yellow representing
Buddhism, and blue, Taoism.
Regular followers will wear white, representing purity. Followers
have to keep themselves pure like the white color of their tunics
in order to advance to the higher level of dignitaries. The colorful vestments of dignitaries are to be worn only for worshipping
ceremonies, not for going out in public.
Q: I see many new followers who have not contributed many
years of service but still are divinely ordained. Why is divine
title so cheap and given so easily?

of widespread competition between the glittering Western and
American civilizations. Our country is weak and underdeveloped, so it should theoretically hurry to follow the footsteps of
civilization. Instead, our people keep meditating and praying,
and disregarding secular matters. I think our country may soon
fall apart and our race may become extinct.

A: I explained previously that there are many levels of practicing the Tao. At basic levels, followers live a normal life as all
others, but in keeping with being gentle, sincere and spiritual. If
all people of our country would do the same, they all would be in
peace, happiness, concordance with each other without jealousy,
without cheating, with sincerity and trust. In this way of life,
there would be no difference between the wise and the stupid.
Competition is a part of life. Thanks to competition, agriculture
and commerce are active, industry developed. But the competition should be spiritual and intellectual as well, developing

to violence, then our lives would descent to the level of the
barbarians rather than rising to the level of the civilized. If all
of humanity follows the Tao, loving each other like children of

Our country is weak and underdeveloped in terms of education
and military resources, but not in terms of virtue. We must accept

3.- Since the closure of the Tao, people practiced the Tao
without result. Some people cultivated the self, but could only
transform Tinh (physical energy) into Kh (Chi, vital energy), but not transform Kh into Than (spiritual energy).
Because of the lack of Than in the secret and miraculous
mechanism, worshipping the eye allows us to bring the Than
back to unify with Tinh and Kh to complete the set of the
Three Treasures and to facilitate the process of becoming saints
and entering Nirvana.
Q: Why dont we worship two eyes?
A: Every thing comes from One and then returns to One. Number 1 is the principal number of the Supreme Being; therefore
we should worship one eye. Its also the secret and miraculous
mechanism of cultivation of the Than. You are not a CaoDaist,
I cannot explain everything to you but only the basics. During
worship ceremony, in order to cultivate the Than, we have to
concentrate on the eye, without blinking our eyes; and our mind
will calm down after about thirty minutes. If we worshipped two
eyes, our mind would be confused, and therefore we could not
concentrate with our undivided attention.
Q: Why are Thai Bach (Li Po), Quan Am (Kwan Yin) and Quan
Thanh (Kwan Kung) worshipped together with the Supreme Being? I am thinking, it would not be the right relationship between
the king and his subjects, as is indicated in the saying, Kings
and subjects should not be on the same mat.
A: On this Third Amnesty, Thai Bach represents the way of
Immortals, Quan Am the way of Buddha, and Quan Thanh,
Confucianism, in order to move the three religions into one
and to save all living beings. They are worshipped as the three

Tom lai Pham thai, Thanh thai eu do theo luat Thien ao, mot
