ROLE PLAY

An event which gives you an opportunity to put yourself in others shoes, albeit retaining the
act, speech and behavior in a manner truly yours. It will be your “out of the box” thinking and
creative speaking which will fetch you brownie points. Listed are the rules and regulations that
will be followed in the course of the competition. The stage is all set for your exploits!

Rules and regulations


• Each team will have two participants.
• The team starting the contest will be decided by the judges.
• One speaker of the team starts while the other has to end.
• Personal comments of any kind directed against the opposite team are strictly
prohibited.
• Participants cannot comment on the opposite team’s stance or statements made in
previous rounds of the competition.
• Negative marking for violating time format.
• The elimination round will be theme-based, a general theme will be given to all teams
and a time of 5 minutes will be given to prepare for the same.
• Only one team will compete at a time in the eliminations round.
• In further rounds teams don’t need to necessarily oppose the other team.
• Use of props will be allowed for all rounds except for the elimination round. Props will
be provided.
• No language barriers. At the same time no use of slang language or jargons.
• Top 10 teams will proceed to the quarter finals and two teams will compete for a place
in the next round from there onwards.
• The decision of the judges will be final.
• Participants will be judged on the following criteria:
i. Content
ii. Presentation
iii. Team-work
iv. Use of quotations
v. Body language
vi. Diction and vocal delivery
vii. Logical illustration and analysis
viii. Discipline
ix. Time deadline followed
Time stipulations
Eliminations:

• 5 minutes preparation time will be alloted.


• 3 minutes time will be given to each team for enactment.
• Warning bell at 2 mins and 45 secs.

Quarterfinals :

• 1 minute for opening speech by each team.


• 6 minutes for the discussion.
• Warning bell at 5 mins 45 secs.
• 1 minute for the final word by each team.

Semi finals:

• No introduction and conclusion.


• This round will have role-reversal amongst the participating teams (inter team
swap of roles).
• Two teams compete against each other for 5 minutes in this knockout round.

Finals:

• 2 minutes for opening speech by each team.


• 8 minutes for the discussion round. (both teams included)
• Warning bell at 7 mins 45 secs.
• 2 minutes for the conclusion by each team.

 Special Rules
• A crowd interaction will occur if the situation demands.
• Topics for the quarters, semis and finals will be provided on the spot to the qualifying
teams and time will be given for preparations.
• Some special rules will be declared during the semis and finals dynamically.
• The judges may ask questions to the participants if they wish to.

Format of the Competition


Role-play will comprise of 4 rounds:

1) Eliminations
2) Quarter-finals
3) Semi Finals.
4) Finals.
