“RULE BOOK”

JUGGLE: THE INTER UNIVERSITY ORATORY COMPETITION, 2023

Eligibility

• The competition is open to undergraduate and post graduate students from all the
departments in the university.

Registration

• Each participant must register through the Google Form.


• There is no registration fee for the competition.
• Any changes in the contact details of a participant must be notified to the organizing
committee at the earliest.

Language

• The language to be used shall only be English.


• Do not use abusive or foul language, it will lead to disqualification.

Format of the competition:

The competition will be conducted in three (03) rounds which are as follows:

1. Extempore: Qualifying Round 1


• The participant is required to make an impromptu speech to the topic given then
and there.
• The topic will be given on the spot 5 minutes prior to the round.
• No prior preparation is permissible.
• Each participant has to speak for 2+1 minutes i.e., 2 minutes for speech and 1
minute to conclude.
2. Turncoat: Qualifying Round 2
• It is a form of debate where one participant states both the pros and cons of a
situation by switching sides after a specific duration.
• Every participant will be given a topic 10 minutes prior to the competition.
• They will have to start by speaking “FOR” the motion and then the same speaker
will switch and speak “AGAINST” the motion on the ring of the bell.

• Each participant will be given a time limit of 2 minutes to speak on the topic.
3. Just a minute: Final Round
• Every participant in this form of debate must speak continuously for one minute
without taking any long pauses.
• The topic will be given by the competing participants on the approval of organising
committee.
• They must not change the topic or repeat information or opinion.
• The competing participant can raise an objection if they feel this has happened,
best done by raising the hand.

Basis of judgement

Every participant will be judged on the following grounds:

• Content
• Ability to comprehend.
• Persuasiveness
• Delivery
• Diction
• Lucid Language

Note:- In case of any discrepancy or issue during the competition, the decision of
organising committee would be final.
