Menurut Boone dan Kurtz (1984:4) Management is the use of people and other
resources to accomplish objective
Educational management, also sometimes known as educational administration, is
commonly associated with elementary and secondary schools as well as institutes of
higher learning like colleges and universities.
Educational management is the theory and practice of the organization and
administration of existing educational establishments and systems.
Educational management is a comprehensive effort dealing with the educational
practices. It is the dynamic side of education. It deals with educational institutions - right
from the schools and colleges to the secretariat. It is concerned with both human and
material resources. The human elements include: (i) Children, (ii) parents, (iii) teachers
and (iv) other employees in general - university of Board of Education at local, state and
National levels of Governments. On the material side there are (a) finance, (b) buildings
and grounds, (c) equipments and instructional supplies. Besides, there are ideas, laws and
regulations and so on, having a bearing on the educational process. The blending of these
'parts' into a 'whole' is educational management.
Menurut Dr. Ashok Pandita Dalam studi yang dilakukan oleh universitas JAMMU yang
berjudul study material for educational administration, Ashok Pandita mengatakan:
Educational Administration is a specialized activity required for the running of whole
educational programme composed of human resources and material resources in an
organized manner towards constructive and fruitful direction. Educational Management as
well as Educational Administration are synonymous terms used interchangeably. Both
these terms mean getting things done in an organized manner to achieve the targets put
forth by the planners and designers.

1. Perencanaan (Planning)
Perencanaan adalah proses menyusun tujuan dan sasaran organisasi serta menyusun
peta kerja yang melibatkan cara pencapaian tujuan.
2. Pengorganisasian (Organizing)
Proses dari menghimpun Sumber Daya Manusia, modal, dan peralatan yang
dibutuhkan dengan cara yang efektif demi mencapai tujuan.
3. Pelaksanaan (Implementation)
Proses dengan menggerakan sumber daya manusia yang ada untuk melakukan kegiatan
pencapaian tujuan sehingga efisiensi proses terjadi dan menghasilkan efektivitas hasil
kerja.
4. Pengawasan (Controlling)
Proses pemberian balikan dan tindak lanjut dari pembandingan antara hasil yang
dicapai dengan rencana yang telah dibuat kemudian terdapat tindakan penyesuaian
apabila terjadi penyimpangan.
