Whenbecomingadigitalcitizen,youmustgainaccesstotechnology.

needorwouldlike.Asdigitalcitizens,youshouldcommittohelpingthosewhomayhave
limitedtonoaccess,gainsometypeofaccesstotechnologysothattheycanhave
digitalaccess.Example:Ateacherassignsaclassprojectthatrequiresspendingtime
ontheinternettodoresearch,however,afewstudentsintheclassdonothaveaccess
totheinternetathome.Thisisnowtheteachersopportunitytofindanotherwayforthe
studentstocompletetheirprojects.Thebestthingtodowouldbetoallowthestudents
whoareunabletoconductresearchathome,comeinearlyinthemorningbeforeclass
startstodoresearchandalsodosomeresearchduringclasstime.
DigitalCommerce:
Digitalcommercerelatestothebuyingandsellingofgoods
electronically.Thisiswhenyouarepurchasingitemsonthewebsuchasclothing,
shoes,toys,etc.Today,digitalcommercehasbecomeverypopular.Example:Ayoung
ladypurchasesapairofshoesviaEbayonlinethatwillbeshippedfromChinatotheUS.
DigitalCommunication:
Digitalcommunicationisoneofthemostpopularelementsof
digitalcitizenshipastodaycommunicationsuchasemail,videochat,cellsphones,etc.
areallwaysinwhichwedigitallycommunicate.Also,socialmediaisanotherwayin
whichmostpeoplecommunicatetodaysuchasFacebookorSnapChat.Youhavetobe
carefulwhencommunicatingdigitallybecauseifyouarenotcarefulwhatyoupostor
say,youcansetyourselfupfortroubleasmostwaysofcommunicatingdigitallyhavea
waytotraceinformationthatisexchanged.Example:Ateachercommunicateswithher
studentsviaaprivatefacebookpagesetupforclassdiscussionchats.
DigitalLiteracy:
Digitalliteracysimplymeansbecomingdigitallyliterateandhavingan
understandingofwhattoteachandhowtolearnaboutallaspectsoftechnologyaswell
astheuseoftechnology.Thisincludesteachinghowtolearninadigitalsocietyor

environmentbecauseitisdifferentfromjustanormallearningenvironment.Allofthe
elementsofbeingadigitalcitizencoincidewithapersonbeingdigitallyliterate.Example:
Anewstudentcomestoatechnologyfocusedschoolfromaschoolwheretheuseof
technologywasveryscarce,ifany.Itistheteachersdutytoensurethatthenewstudent
learnshowtolearninatechnologybasedlearningenvironment.
DigitalEtiquette:
Digitaletiquettesimplyistheproperwaytoconductyourselfdigitally
whenusingtechnology.Whendiscussingdigitaletiquette,youmustrecognize
inappropriatebehaviorinrelationtousingtechnology.Example:Ateachersetsupa
classdiscussionforumandafewstudentsareusinginappropriatebehavior,therefore
shehastoredirectthemandinstructthemthattheyarenotdemonstratingappropriate
digitaletiquette.
DigitalRights&Responsibilities:
Digitalrightsandresponsibilitiesaretherightsand
freedomsthatdigitalcitizenshave.Digitalcitizenshaverightstospeech,privacy,etc.
Example:Adigitalcitizenhastherighttopostwhateverhe/shewouldliketopost
verballyonasocialsitesuchasFacebook.
DigitalLaw:
Digitallawisthemoreseriouselementofthemallbecauseitdealswiththe
ethicaluseoftechnologysuchasidentitytheft,hacking,etc.Violationofdigitallawscan
causeonetogetintosomeserioustrouble.Thelawsapplytoanyonewhousesthe
internet.Example:Apersonbuysapairofshoesfromnike.com,andtheybecomea
victimofidentitytheftafterthepurchase.
DigitalHealth&Wellness:
Digitalhealthandwellnessisalittledifferentamongthe
otherelementsbecauseitfocusesonthewellbeingoftechnologyusers.Digital
wellbeingrangesfromthingssuchaseyesafetytoadditiontotheInternet.Example:A
habitualonlinegamerbecomessoaddictedtohisonlinegamingthathebecomes
frequentlylatetowork,andmayevencallinjusttofinishagamewithhisonlinefriends.
DigitalSecurity:
Digitalsecurityreferstoonebeingcautiousofthedangersthatcan
occurwhenutilizingtechnologyfrequently.Thereareprecautionsthatanindividual
shouldtakeinordertopreventanyharmcomingaboutwhenonline.Example:Whenan
individualdecidestomakeonlinepurchases,makesurethatthesitehasasecure
checkoutwhenenteringincreditcardinformationsitessuchasPayPalareveryuseful
inprotectingidentityandsuch.
