Reporter: Elizabeth Colosimo

Elizabeth [voiceover]: David Cook sits down with CelebTV.com on the eve of his
album drop.

Elizabeth: Tuesday was a huge day for David Cook. His first album since winning
American Idol dropped, and he did get to go one-on-one with CelebTV.com.

David: Idol's given me an amazing opportunity. And uh...I will spent the rest of my
life bein' eternally thankful for that. But I look forward to actually getting out on the
road and meetin' new people, and...and uh...and, and hopefully expanding the
fanbase a little bit. I think there's, there's a lotta ears out there left to...attack.

Elizabeth [voiceover]: And while Cook admits he may have been nervous the night
before the Idol finale, it doesn't compare to how he's feeling right now.

David: Uh, there are more nerves this time around. I think with the, with the Idol
finale, there were, um...there was a safety net, in that I was singin' other people's
songs, and they were songs that people knew. And...I think with, with this
one...um...ya' know, it's all new material, it's all stuff that, um...ya' know, somebody
doesn't like the song, they don't go to the artist, they go to me. So...it's a different
uh...it's a different vibe, for sure.

Elizabeth [voiceover]: And so is dating in the spotlight. Cook admits sometimes it's
annoying to have his relationship with his girlfriend, another former Idol contestant,
Kimberly Caldwell, so out there.

David: To some degree, it's-- it comes with the territory. I, I have to constantly
remind myself that it's all f-- it's all for the end result.

Elizabeth [voiceover]: That result, as we all know, is Cook's music. And that ever-
so-clever self-titled album of his, "David Cook."

David: I'd actually toyed around with the idea of namin' The Record. Um...I think at
the end, for me, it just came down to what is this record about? In looking at The
Record, it's very autobiographical. And it's...it's, it's um...it's a pretty accurate
definition of me.

Elizabeth [voiceover]: But that's not such a bad thing.

David: Ya' know, I'm still uh...still a run-of-the-mill dude from the Midwest who...hit
the lottery. So...um...and I've got family and friends that will never, ever let that
change. So...uh...I'm, I'm in a good place. I would say that currently, this is in fact
the time of my life. But I will probably have to leave a light on to see if something
else comes up. [Eyes the camera with a sly grin]
Elizabeth: Cook says it's awesome when he's able to use his fame to help others.
