OWNERS GUIDE

IND-X INDUSTRIAL FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that employees be instructed in personal safety and
the operation of the system. Ansul provides this owner's
guide to the authorized Ansul distributor who in turn, shall
provide the owner with this information.
This owners guide is not intended to cover all the requirements which are stated in the detailed Installation,
Operation, Recharge, Inspection, and Maintenance Manual,
Part No. 417743. This guide is solely for the use of the enduser to become more knowledgeable with the fire suppression system and the steps necessary in the event of a fire.
Should the end-user want to find out more information concerning the Ansul IND-X Fire Suppression System, the
authorized Ansul distributor can furnish a detailed
Installation, Operation, Recharge, Inspection, and Maintenance Manual.
Fires are common in industry....A sobering statement to
be sure, but one which is supported by fire statistics. Each
year, industrial fires claim lives, destroy property and cost
companies millions of dollars for increased insurance premiums, machinery replacement and the rebuilding of plant
facilitiesnot to mention lost productivity.
The tragedy is that the majority of these devastating fires
could have been prevented or reduced in severity through
an effective program of fire protection.
The success of such a program depends upon having the
right fire suppression equipment (like the Ansul IND-X
Industrial Fire Suppression System) in the right places.
Plus, employees who understand their role in protecting the
facilities from fire.

YOUR ROLE IN FIRE PROTECTION

1. Keep all ignition sources out of hazard area. Never store
flammable materials or liquids near a heat source.
2. If smoking is allowed in the protected area, make sure
ashes and smoking materials are disposed of properly.
3. Never tamper with the IND-X system components (i.e.,
detectors, nozzles, agent storage container(s) or detection/control and releasing units.
4. Before you revise your plant layout or make changes
which affect the basic configuration of the protected area,
contact your authorized Ansul distributor for a system
update evaluation. The IND-X system is made up of
components tested within limitations contained in the
detailed installation manual. The system designer must
be consulted whenever changes are planned for the system or area of protection.
5. Do not allow anyone but an authorized Ansul distributor
to perform maintenance on your Ansul IND-X system.
Maintenance to your system should be performed at
least semi-annually. It is essential that the system be
maintained properly both before and after a fire.
HOW THE ANSUL IND-X SYSTEM OPERATES
1. A fire starts in the protected area
2. Fire detectors sense the fire and send a signal to the
control panel which then actuates the releasing devices
which sends pressure to the tank valve, opening the
valve. The control panel also triggers alarm bells, shuts
down machinery, and performs other actions.
3. When the valve is opened, Ansul dry chemical is discharged through the system piping and nozzles into the
protected areasuppressing the fire.
