Materials

: Pictures of the King and the Queen, Pictures of different traditional


costumes

Introduction:
1) Teacher tells students that today they are going to listen to a story entitled Costumes and the King
and the Queen.
2) Teacher tells the story.
- Once upon a time, there was a King and a Queen. They ruled over a kingdom. In his kingdom
has many citizens. The citizens were from different races. The King and the Queen loved to
way traditional costumes of different races. So, one day, they asked the tailor to make a
costume for them.
Teaching point:
1) Teacher plays the song of Hari Raya.
2) Teacher pastes Malay traditional costume on the whiteboard.
- During Hari Raya, they wear Baju Melayu and Baju Kurung.
- Baju Melayu has long sleeves.
- Baju Kurung has long sleeves.
3) Teacher asks questions:
- Does Baju Melayu has long sleeves?
- Baju Kurung will have short or long sleeves?
4) Teacher plays Chinese New Year song.
5) Teacher shows the children on the costume of Chinese people.
- During Chinese new year, they wear Tang suit and Cheongsam.
- Tang suit has high collar.
- Cheongsam has high collar.
6) Teacher asks questions:
- Tang suit has high or short collar?
- Does Cheongsam have collar?
7) Teacher plays the song of Deepavali.

8) Teacher pastes Indian costume on the whiteboard.


- Kurta has buttoned collar.
- Saris has short sleeves.
9) Teacher asks questions:
- Kurta has buttoned collar or no collar?
- Saris has long sleeves or short sleeves?
10) Teacher continues the story.
- The King and the queen like the costumes very much. They want the citizens to wear it on their
festival. They live happily ever after.
11) Teacher does the summation by asking questions on the pictures of traditional costumes.
- Baju Melayu has long sleeves.
- Baju Kurung has long sleeves.
- Tang Suit has high collar.
- Cheongsam has high collar.
- Kurta has buttoned collar.
- Saris has short sleeves.
Guided activity:
1) Teacher gives each group a set of pictures with different traditional costumes.
2) Teacher says the characteristics.
- The costumes have long sleeves.
3) Pupils find the characteristics from the set of pictures.
4) Pupils show the picture.
5) Pupils colour the picture.
6) Teacher repeats step 2 to step 5 until three of the costumes had been mentioned.
Closure:
1) Teacher praises students for their efforts.
2) Teacher gives lollipop to the students as a token of appreciation for their efforts.
