Battle of the Books

Guidelines for the Moderator

1 A competition will consist of three matches with four rounds of twenty-four
questions per round. Each team will participate in two of the matches. Students
will switch out between each round.
2 Please read the Rule Reminders at the start of the competition.
3 There are twelve packets of questions and one envelope of replacement
questions. You may read the packets in whatever order, as long as the packets
are not reused throughout the duration of the competition.
4 The question and answer are printed on the same label. The answer is in bold.
a Acceptable Answers: Full Title of Book AND Full OR Last name of Author
5 When a question is interrupted, you STOP reading and say interruption. No
part of the question can be repeated for that team. The Judge will then
recognize the student so he/she can answer. If the answer is correct, say,
Correct and proceed to the next question. If the answer is incorrect, say,
Incorrect. The Judge will mark them down -1 point. Since it is an interruption,
reread the entire question for the opposing team.
6 If a student answers either the title or the authors name incorrectly, please say
incorrect. Do not indicate which part of the answer is incorrect. At this point,
the other team will have the opportunity to correctly answer the question. Do
not reread the question.
7 If a student gives either the title or the author incorrectly, and the
judge/moderator does not catch it, one of the participating, opposing team
members may buzz in before the next question is read in order to point out the
error. That student must then provide the correct answer.

Questions may be challenged by a player or coach before the reading of the next
question. If both coaches agree it can be answered by more than one book, a
replacement question is read. Please mark challenged questions so that they will
not be used again. Also mark the replacement question, so that it is not used
again.
