Parent Involvement Proposal

Salem Avenue Elementary School is preparing for a merger with the recently
closed Winter Street Elementary School. This change of school districting
presents an opportunity to reach out to the new and current parents of the
boundary to increase parental involvement in the education process as well
as for school events. The proposal of this plan is to review, revise formalize a
previously existing event to increase the potential success of the event. The
design of this event is for every family within the districting boundary of
Salem Avenue Elementary school to receive a personalized and unique
introduction to upcoming school year in a familiar setting of their own home.
I.

Event
The Back to School Blitz
12:30pm 4:00pm
Monday, August 11, 2016
This event is designed for families to be able to meet the teacher of
their students at their home. This opportunity increases the
opportunity for teachers to meet their students and their families as
well as to alleviate some of the anxiety of transitioning to a new grade
level and teacher. Teachers will be given a class roster with addresses
and will travel to each of their students homes to meet and greet as
well as to invite the family to the back to school night which includes a
barbeque.

Purpose
To creatively adapt the traditional meet and greet opportunity for
families and the school.
To increase the opportunity for families to meet the teacher of their
students as well as the as questions about the back to school night.
To allow the families who are unable to attend the back to school night
the opportunity to meet the teacher.
IV.
Instructions
Teachers will be presented thorough instructions and pre-packed
materials to make the process as seamless as possible.
Teachers will be offered an opportunity to attend a planning meeting to
ask any clarification questions to better understand the questions.
