COURSE OUTLINE
in
ES108 - Theory of Structures
I.

Course Description
This course will introduce the mechanics of structures under static loading conditions. You will learn
to estimate or determine the loads to be carried by a structure. This course covers the principles and
methods that calculate the direct stress, the shear and bending moment, and the deflection at any section of
each member of the structure.

II.

Objectives
Upon completion, the students are expected to:

Translate stated problem in theory of structures to an analytic form.

Apply appropriate solution techniques to the problem.

Understand the principles and calculate stress, shear and bending moment, and deflection at any
section of each member of the structure.
