Entrepreneurship,socialresponsibilityandbusinessmathskillswere
demonstratedbythestudentswhopresentedplansforsmallbusinesses
duringthefirsteditionofANSSharkTank.
12Finalist,outofatotalof70applications,presentedtheirprojectstoa
panelofjudgescompetinginhopesofobtainingaloanofuptoU$2,500
towardsmakingtheirbusinessareality.Withthegoalofcreatinga
businessthatfindsabalancebetweengeneratingprofitsandhelping
othersinneed,thefinalistsfoundinnovativeandcreativewaysinwhichto
servethecommunity.
Mr.KyleMartin,MiddleSchoolVicePrincipal,expressedthattheidea,
originatedasawaytoteachhowmathematicsarepresentinourdaily
lives.Wemaybeunawarethatweapplymathmanytimesthroughoutour
day,fromdecidingwhatcerealtobuy,lookingatweatherforecasts,to
runningabusinessthisprojectdemonstratedjustthis.Thestudentswere
appliednumerousskillslearnedintheirmathclassestorealworld
problems.Thisway,mathproblemswerenotonlywordproblemsona
worksheet.Wewereabletodemonstratethechallengesthatbusinessgo
througheveryday,whilelearningaboutdailyimplementationsofmath.,
