INTRODUCTION

On the Job Training is compulsory on most schools in the world. It is a way to

apply and to utilize the knowledge learned from the past. It is believed that learning within

the borders of the school could be excellent if applied in the real world of work.

The On-The-Training (OJT) is a way to let the students be ready on the real world

of work, exposing them on the possibilities and letting them experience how it feels when

working. This is a great opportunity to them for they will gain additional knowledge and

skills and learn a lot of things that will become a great help to them in the near future. This

advantage will motivate them to be more active in their respective works and to be eager to

learn more.

Alternatively, On the Job Training is an advantage for the company; the trainees

are the ones who help the employees to make significant works easier. It is also a give and

take transaction; students are able to apply what they’ve learned on the task given and at

the same time giving the employees time to work on other job in the office.

him to be trained in their establishment and for providing all necessary knowledge that will

be useful in the future.

Special thanks is also given to Ms. Febie Rose De Peralta , Mrs. Catalina

Talosig and Mr. Christian Bolus for their good accommodation and overwhelming

1. PHILIPPINE NATIONAL BANK -SANCHEZ MIRA, CAGAYAN BRANCH

Background of the Firm

The Philippine National Bank was established as a government-owned banking

institution on July 22, 1916. Its primary mandate was to provide financial services to Philippi0p

ne industry and agriculture and support the government's economic development

effort. World War I, then raging in Europe, generated huge demand for the country's major

exports namely: sugar, copra, coconut oil, Manila hemp and tobacco. However, not much was

being done to develop the industries that produced these sought-after crops since access to credit

facilities was limited. To solve this problem, Henderson Martin, Vice Governor of the

Philippines, together with Miguel Cuaderno (who later became Central Bank governor) drafted a

charter for a national bank.

On February 4, 1916, Public Act 2612 was passed by the Philippine

Legislature providing for the establishment of PNB to replace the small P1 million government-

owned Agricultural Bank. PNB's first head office was the Masonic Temple along

Escolta, Manila, the then "Wall Street of the Philippines" in the bustling district of Sta. Cruz in

Manila. An American, Henry Parker Willis, was its first president.

With PNB's establishment, Filipinos had a bank of their own. PNB was authorized to

grant short and long-term loans to agriculture and industry. Filipino farmers then could avail of

loans with interest between 8% to 10% per annum. PNB was also authorized to receive deposits,

open foreign credits and rediscount bills.

On July 24, 1916, PNB established its first branch in Iloilo. In 1917, PNB opened its first

non-Philippine branch in New York. The following year, it established five more domestic

branches and another outside the Philippines in Shanghai, China.

Corporate Objective

By continually providing the best customer experience to generations of Filipinos here and

abroad, PNB aims to be among the top 3 in the various markets that it chooses to compete in.

Narration of Experiences

The trainee was assigned to conduct his on the job training at PNB Sanchez Mira on the

21 st of August for 200 hours. He was very excited because of the new people and environment,

but at the same time nervous because he didn’t know what kind of people they were. The

manager, Mrs. Glenda Macalma, introduced them to the staffs and so did the staffs introduce

themselves to the trainees.

Trainees were given a designated place where they will stay and were supervised by Mr.

Delfin Agcaoili IV and Mr. Percival Gonzales. They instructed them to familiarize themselves

with the equipment at the bank such as the scanner and the photocopier. Before 9:00 am

approach, the trainees are asked to stay at the main door as it opens to greet the clients and give

them their queue numbers. He also experienced filing and sorting files. They taught them how to

assist customers. The trainee did the releasing of passbooks and the refilling of deposit,

withdrawal and payment slips.

He was also asked to pull out the signatute cards of dormant accounts. Dormant accounts

are the accounts that have been inactive or have no transactions for at least 2 years. The trainee

also filed the signature cards alphabetically.

2. CAGAYAN STATE UNIVERSITY-ACCOUNTING OFFICE

Background of the Firm

The Cagayan State University is the first and only state run comprehensive institutions of

higher learning in Cagayan. It has shared its historic contribution to development of tertiary

education in the Philippines.

Presidential Decree 1436, signed on June 11,1978 created the Cagayan State University

by merging to existing colleges; the Cagayan Valley College of Arts & Trades at Tuguegarao

City and the Northern Luzon State College of Agriculture at Piat.

Rationalized on the issues of efficiencies and effectiveness, college courses of other

smaller institutions that were under the supervision and control of the former Ministry of

education, Culture & Sports were made an integral part of the university system. These were the

Aparri Institute of Technology, Bukig National Agricultural and Technical Sports, Aparri School

of Arts & Trades, Cagayan Valley Agricultural College, Sanchez Mira Rural and Vocational

School, Western Cagayan School of Arts & Trades and Gonzaga National Agricultural and

Technical School.

Philosophy

The University serves the individual by providing the student with a nurturing

environment for optimal human flourishing. It serves the community by offering programs

responsive to individual and social needs.

Narration of Experiences

CSU - Sanchez Mira Accounting Office was the trainee’s second internship designation. It was

on the 7th of November 2017 when his first day of internship from the said establishment began.

The trainee felt a bit of excitement of what he could learn from the whole duration of his

internship. He was also nervous from the moment he entered thinking of what might be the tasks

that would be given for him to do. He was assisted by Mrs. Kaina S. Labasan and introduced to

the campus accountant, Ms. Fely Jane Reyes. Together with his co-trainee, they were oriented by

Mr. Christian Bolus and Ms. Febie Rose de Peralta.

The trainee as well as his co-trainee was eager to learn every task the employees were

asking them to do. So, what one trainee experienced to do was also experienced by the other

trainees.

Recording the vouchers in their respective books is important because the book where it

is recorded is where the DV # will come from. The DV # for each Disbursement Voucher differs

because it serves as identification for each disbursement voucher.

The trainee was tasked to photocopy BURS and DV which are necessary for filing. It is

necessary for the office to have a copy of the documents which will also be necessary for source

of information.

The trainee was taught to operate the system for issuing forms, student ledger and students’

statement of account. The trainee was taught of when students should be issued with what they

request for at the accounting office.

A week or earlier than the day of examination, as long as permits for the exams are

already available, students may already secure their permits to be able to take the examinations.

In order to secure a permit, the student must have paid at least 1/3 of the miscellaneous fee

assessed upon enrolment for the prelim terms, 2/3 for the midterms and must pay it fully on the

final terms. In that case, the trainee checked the account balance of the students before issuing

them permit. If there would be students who were not able to meet the minimum amount of

payment needed during the term, as long as the reason was reasonable and justifiable, they are

given a form of promissory note which must be filled out by the student. The promissory note
CAGAYAN STATE UNIVERSITY
SANCHEZ MIRA
COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

should indicate when will the balance be paid and should be approved and signed by the CEO.

After that, the student should pass the promissory note to the accounting office because it will

serve as their file.

Problems Encountered

During his stay at PNB- Sanchez Mira, he encountered some problems that

motivated him to work harder. He hardly looked for some of the files they were asking him to

search because there were so many documents. He had overcome this problem because situations

like this only needs patience. Another problem encountered by the trainee was that some

customers have difficulty in filling out forms. The trainee was able to address the problem by

supervising the clients properly.

The trainee also faced a minor problem in CSU – SM Accounting Office. It is that

the trainee doesn’t know all the faculties and staffs of CSU so he always asks his trainers who

they were if their signature is needed.

Values Learned

During the intern’s training, he was able to learn work values. One of them is

professionalism. He learned to set aside his personal problems and emotions from work and did

the tasks as how they should be done. Politeness is not missed; he courteously greets employees,

clients and even his co trainees. Punctuality was also observed by the trainee. Being punctual at
CAGAYAN STATE UNIVERSITY
SANCHEZ MIRA
COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

work represents your dedication to your job. That is what the trainee observed from each

employee from the whole duration of his training. Objectivity was also one. The trainee was able

to cater the needs of the clients fairly without considering who and where they came from.

Lastly, perseverance, though some tasks are time-consuming, the trainee learned that being

persistent in every job is essential. Though the activities are routinely, the trainee performed the

tasks actively.

CONCLUSION

On the job training brought him inspirations to attain his goals in the future. On his

training, he learned a lot such as improving his self-confidence in socializing with people and

having the initiative to do something.

The trainee familiarized himself with the transactions of both entities he was deployed to.

He faced various problems but still managed with the help of other employees and his co-

trainees. The job training is worth the time and effort. For him, nothing beats experience.
