Asalamu Alaikum and Welcome to Grade Five!
I am joyful to announce I will be the teacher for Grade 5B. My name is Sr. Storiy and
I am truly grateful to Allah (swt) for us to embark on this exciting journey together. I
would also like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am a Graduate from
University of Toronto Scarborough with high distinction and I have a Bachelor's Degree
in a variety of core subjects including Anthropology, Geography and Women/Gender
Studies. I also finished my Bachelors of Education degree at University of Toronto. I also
received the Miyumi Sasaki Initial Teacher Education Award as an advocate for social
justice and equity in education and in the larger community.
In my teaching career, Ive had great opportunities that allowed me to teach grade
seven and grade four as their home room teacher. These experiences have given me a
significant understanding of the different needs and learning styles of students.
Within my classroom, there is much emphasis on Islamic values, teachings and
understandings that will be taught and embedded within our everyday subjects. This is
because Islam is connected to our everyday lives. I also emphasize the importance of
maintaining a positive learning environment by ensuring that the students feel safe and
comfortable. Our classroom should be seen and experienced as a community to help build
each other up with hard work, care and respect. Students must understand they are a part
of the Muslim Ummah and that they should be positive role models. Especially as grade
five students, our class will focus on promoting positive attitudes and positive actions
towards change. Parents, this means you also have a major role in your childs education.
I hope to see each parents positive involvement in their childs work and behaviour. This
is a team effort and I look forward to working together!
JazakAllah Khayr,
Sister Storiy
