20 minute session on Making the Most of Discussions focused on: managing
discussions for students at different levels, starting and closing a discussion.
Learning Goal:
Showing Cohort 2 how to start and close a discussion with students at different levels.
Context (students, classroom, etc):
39 students from a NEF training program, good understanding of material. Students
have prior knowledge of this topic.
Pedagogy Implemented (Teaching strategy):
1) Collaborative group work where a diverse group of students engage in debrief,
hand-on and technological activities that help them find a meaningful ending to a
discussion.
2) Student-generated content present and/or display content that shows their
understanding.
21st Century Skills Addressed:
- Collaboration: connecting with each other to note-take
- Creating: illustrations, notes
Student Activities:
1) Students are divided into groups
2) Students are given a case study to discuss and reflect upon
3) 3-2-1 Post-Its:
Students given multi-colored post-its, where they discuss and write:
